He went to Europe a while back and on his trip he visited Normandy. He's retired military and his family has deep military ties so he wanted to check it out.

Anyway, he brings me back some sand from Omaha and Utah beaches. I'm floored. It's going up on the mantle ASAP.

I know, I know, CSB.

Yeah, that has to be pretty difficult for someone to get their hands on.

I wouldn't even know where to begin looking for it you know?

Especially since the whole state is land locked.

He probably just got it from a playground or something. I wouldn't get all teary-eyed over it.

He packed it in zip locks to get it over.
I'm going to find some jars and get them engraved.

Very cool. Even my wife said Normandy was the most touching place she had ever visited and she really doesn't have any deep knowledge of military history or anything

Very cool.

I've got some sand that I gathered from Iwo Jima. I had my buddy take a picture of me gathering the sand with Mt. Suribachi in the background. I plan on making a display case that will hold the picture and the sand. That will be one I hold on to forever.

My grandpa landed on Omaha Beach. He lived to 86. Never talked much about it. The more I learn about those days, the more I

I couldn't imagine what those men went through that day.

I read a story in the newspaper about a GI that had jars of sand that he picked up in North Africa, Sicily, and at Normandy. And he survived all three and made it home after the war.
