According to the Houma Police Department, officers responded to a "suspicious situation" about 10:22 a.m. in the 100 block of Senator Circle.

Police said Skylleur Ramon Hayes, 22, of Thibodaux barricaded himself inside the home with hostages and a gun. Hayes has outstanding warrants in Lafourche Parish for probation violation and Terrebonne Parish for simple robbery with a $100,000 bond.

State Police, Houma police, SWAT and the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office are at the scene negotiating with Hayes.

Officials said they were able to negotiate the release of a 1-year-old child from the home.

The situation escalated at 11:50 a.m. when police said gunshots were heard from inside the home. A woman was seen inside suffering from a gunshot wound to her head, police said.

Officers entered the home and found Hayes hiding in the attic. Negotiations are continuing at this moment.
