My dog is very weak and lethargic, not acting himself for about 2 days and would like to get him checked out, as its extremely abnormal. Don't have a local vet as we moved recently back to LA, so was wondering if anyone has had experience with LSU Vet center clinic or can recommend someone in denham/baton rouge that can accommodate walk ins/same day appointment...

Any help would be tremendously appreciated!

ETA Im sure this has been covered previously at some point, but can't find anything with a quick search, and am trying to take care of some things before I take him

They are expensive. Try Google maps to find a vet near you.

I think you need a referral and appointment to take them in but not 100% certain. If you are looking for a reasonable, trustworthy vet in BR, I highly recommend AVS (Associated Veterinary Services) on Greenwell Springs Road @ 225.928.4417.

Unfortunately I had a mare there in icu for a few days.

It was expensive, but nowhere near as bad as I thought. $600 below the quote they gave me.

BAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA

Eta: yes LSU vet was outstanding when I needed them. But yes.. Not cheap. Although it ended up totaling to much less than I was quoted.

So is that a vote of no confidence for AVS or just saying that you don't need referral for LSU? I know just about anywhere is going to have good and bad stories. Just was trying to see if any common stories

Colic at 10 1/2 months pregnant

No impactions or twists, though. Just kept for observation.

I LOVE babies. When I go out to visit my yearling I always want to play with the new ones.

just a suggestion, but why don't you just get to a vet clinic? If you wait any longer you're either gonna have an emergency call on your hands (Friday night/weekend) or the dog may get sicker. Not ragging on you, but its Friday afternoon. your options are fading. Just take the dog somewhere and get it examined. At least then, you'll have a baseline from which to analyze the situation.

glad it didn't require surgery.

I should

I second the suggestion of just get it into a vet today. Much better than an emergency visit.

Helouin's on Airline near Choctaw.
Ph# 924-2471
IMO, they're the best in town.
Request Phill or Carl if you can.

Had a beagle get run over in my front yard by an Asplundh truck. Pelvic was crushed and her guts were hanging out. That company paid for her treatment at the LSU Vet Clinic. Took several weeks and lots of stitches, screws, and pins, but that dog lived to hunt the rest of her life. I was pretty amazed and very thankful.

Like everyone's saying they're good, but expensive. You don't need an appointment. What infuriates me is that after they talk to you, and kind of prediagnose (for lack of a better word) your pet, they take them into the back where you're not allowed to be with them.

Denham Springs Animal Hospital is very good. Good with the animals, relatively inexpensive. Usually where we take our guy.

Years ago, my mom's local vet actually sent her to the LSU vet clinic when our 5 y.o. English Bulldog got really sick. Best care in the state. They saved the dog and it went on to live another seven years, which is really good for a bulldog. It was a little expensive.

They kept our bulldog for about a week.

Our weiner dog had a back surgery there to the tune of $4 thousand.

They did him up right though.

The vet school is very expensive for an appointment.

My dad is a vet in Baton Rouge. He'd be happy to take care of your pup. He's open on Saturdays as well if you can't make it somewhere today.

Yea that's the plan. I just left work. My wife had to leave to go out of town for a few days for work this morning and I was getting out as soon as I possibly could.

Sherwood South set me up for 4, most of the places I tried couldn't get him in until later than that.

Thanks for the input though boys and girls
