Looking for a multi-purpose shoe here. I will be going on a trek that involves mostly light hiking with water-related activities thrown in the mix. I'm not looking for a high-top hardcore hiking boot.

I'm thinking something along the lines of this:

Any suggestions?

I think those giant holes are going to undermine the waterproof-ness.

Along the lines of what picture you posted I wear these when I go kayak fishing.

However they are far from being waterproof.

ETA: These have very little support on the sole. I wouldn't use these for hiking.

That is a good shoe. I use them for surf fishing. I take it you are going to be wearing the shoe during the water activities...

If so, make sure you let them dry or it will be blister city for your dogs. Keen makes a fully enclosed version of that exact shoe if you are gonna take them off before getting wet...

I got the Land's End version because I'm poor, and they work great.

I have a pair of timberland hiking shoes that are all leather. I wear them in water, mud, etc. and have found them to be damn good. Got them at Academy.

I guess what I meant by "waterproof" was that the shoe can be submerged by water and it won't adversely effect the shoe.

I can vouch for these:

I have had 2 pairs. They didn't wear out, just got stinky as f@#$. Awesome traction and great fit.

I have a pair of Columbia Drainmakers that I wear for fishing, kayaking, and other watersports. They are lightweight and durable!

ETA: They have held up well after multiple trips through the washing machine to remove fish blood.

based off your pic I'd say keen's. I've never worn them but I hear good things.

check out a few hiking or outdoor magazines at a drugstore like cvs. They have reviews of hiking shoes/boots and other outdoor gear. That might be a good start.

ETA: ^^^^^^I guess I showed my age. Check 'em out online.
