That pretty much ends his quest for higher office, right?

Do any of his supporters think he should wait? He's a relatively young guy.

The same was said for Ron Paul after his first and he ran two more times.

If Cory Booker runs against Rand Paul and loses, does that pretty much end it for Cory Booker?

Of course not.

Absolutely not.

I don't want Rand to make it for the sake of Rand, I want Rand to make for the sake of the USA. If he doesn't make it, he doesn't make it.

He's like a year and a half younger than Obama so in 2016 he'll be older than Obama was in 2008.

No. Now seems as good a time as ever. The country needs someone with strong convictions toward liberty and someone who's unafraid to buck the establishment in DC.

So?? Who cares if he's young? Who cares if he's in and out of politics quickly? We should want all of our "leaders" to get in and out instead of getting stale (entrenched/crooked) like a McCain, a Graham or a Reid.

Probably, how many ppl have got a major party nomination 2 or more times? I could see him being Gov of Kentucky or a VP candidate, but IF he loses (which ain't gonna happen) I highly doubt he runs or gets the nomination again.

ETA: after losing a general election.

Who knows, by 2020 Justin Amash may the heir apparent by then. I can see Paul leaving after two terms and spreading the message of liberty.

To add a wrinkle to this thread, I don't think Kentucky has yet passed a bill that would allow Rand Paul to be on the ballot for both Senate and President. And if it passes the Democrat-controlled House there's still the chance that the bill could be vetoed by the Governor, a Democrat. So there is a chance he would not have his Senate seat to fall back on and he'd be out.

Anyone still think he should proceed at that point or will it be better for him to wait.

It's a lithmus test and Paul isn't sweating that. He'll run for relection in KY, and POTUS in the other 49.

He would spot HRC 8 electoral votes? Whoa.

That could change the map for him, making it even harder to win.

It's a win win, at least he can reach 300+ million Americans with his message.

Limiting it only to those who lost at least 1 Presidential election:

John Adams

Thomas Jefferson

George Clinton

Aaron Burr (same party as George Clinton, never ran when Clinton didn't run)*

John Quincy Adams

Andrew Jackson

Henry Clay

Martin Van Buren (although he lost as an incumbent)

William Henry Harrison

Grover Cleveland (lost as an incumbent, re-nominated, and served a second, non-consecutive term)

Benjamin Harrison (lost as an incumbent)

William Jennings Bryan

Teddy Roosevelt

Eugene Debs

Eugene Chafin

William Howard Taft (lost as an incumbent)

Herbert Hoover (lost as an incumbent)

Thomas Dewey

Adalai Stevenson

Richard Nixon

Jimmy Carter (lost as an incumbent)

George H.W. Bush (lost as an incumbent)

A losing message that would be left in 2016. You think Republicans would continue to pump up Paulism after that?

IMO, he's too green. I like Rand Paul ok and I might consider voting for him, but he's a bit of a loose cannon.

The presidential race is long, long, long. It's less of a contest about ideas as much as it's contest to see who can gaffe the least. HRC is as good as it gets in that regard. She's been the target of the right since the 80s.
