This app is basically a virtual library with a 9.99 monthly subscription fee. Anyone use this? Solid selection? What are some must reads? Go. Bunch of Betas.

You know that most libraries lend ebooks for free, right?

So it's a library with a more limited selection which you also have to pay for? Sounds beta.

Do you also pay for local radio?

Considering I buy one ebook every 6-8 weeks for ~$7 this seems like a horrible deal. Not to mention I get the audiobook from audible too for another ~$4.

i use two different public libraries (dual resident), so i'm usually able to find something for free.
however, not all public libraries are very good (e.g., DeKalb County, is slim pickins), and it's time consuming to find decent stuff. Also, you don't have what you want at your fingertips.
If Oyster's library grew to include a shitton of books, and you are an avid reader, researcher, etc., then I could see a subscription-based service being worth it.
But as you describe it, it definitely does not seem worth it.

Same here. I get my free book once a month on Prime, then I download tons of things from the Library. The only time I pay for an ebook is if the Library doesn't have it and it isn't offered on Prime. But most of those are older books that are in one of many series I've been reading. The Library had the first three in this one series, and then I saw some more of the later ones, but for some reason the fourth book isn't on there. Only an Audiobook version.
Oh, and the GOT books. I can't finish one of those in the 3 weeks my library allots for checkouts, so I bought those. I bought some 4 book deal from Amazon, and it was the price of 3 of the books, then way later on I bought the 5th.

I like how the ones in and around Birmingham are all linked. It is the Jefferson County Library Cooperative, or JCLC. I can check out books, dvds, cds, and tons of ebooks from 40 different libraries. I've been thinking about getting a card from one in Shelby county where my mom and sisters live, and even one in Dothan where my Dad lives, just so I can have more free selections.

same goes for Athens, Ga area. My buddy lets me use his account sometimes.
eta: oh, and i think all of the ones in Montana are linked. I get WAY more books from there than from DeKalb Co Ga. And they give me 5 checkouts instead of 3. Important when on trips, especially backpacking.

i assume he's referring to the Kindle Owners Lending Library.
It's ok, but not a huge selection (of good books anyway). You get one free book a month (you can keep it as long as you want, but can't download another until you turn it back in).
eta: and you can do it only on a Kindle device--not an app.
