I'm watching Tim Burton's Batman Returns

This used to be my absolute favorite Batman movie but it's just so outdated. I watched Tim Burton's Batman not too long ago and felt the same way. Michael Keaton is great but that's is. The music selection, gothic style and casting are just old and annoying to me now.
And yes, I think The Dark Knight is the best Batman movie ever made.

I loved the first two Batman films. I still think they hold up pretty well as long as you remember that they are Tim Burton movies and he loves crazy unrealistic things in his movies.

I watched them a few months ago. As long as you put it in its own universe, like the Nolan films, they are great. Burton is a dark individual, and he screwed up the Penguin character to an extent because the character never interested him as a kid.
This is Tim Burton we are talking about, and in addition to bringing SOME realism to the characters, he was also fighting 20-plus years of Adam West and Burt Ward reruns and making these films in the late '80s and early '90s.
I can still enjoy the first two films just as much as Nolan's stuff. Now, I was also a huge Batman fan back then as I am now, and those movies were the best thing to come along since Superman II. They set the groundwork for the Flash TV series that was pretty good and Batman: The Animated Series, which was ridiculously superior to any other Batman cartoon ever produced.
Things get reinvented for new generations. Batman is no different.

I just don't get the "dated" claim thrown around. You have to put things in context. The effects in the original "War of the Worlds" are dated, but that doesn't make me enjoy the movie any less. Same goes for the original Tron and The Last Starfighter. Those are primitive computer graphics, but two of my favorite movies.
Tim Burton's Batman films were late 80s textbook Burton films. He's a pretty dark dude. Keaton pulled off Batman well, and burton managed to apply the Bat-gadgets so many people were used to seeing from West and Ward without being overtly cheesy. Comparing them in any way to the Nolan films is doing both series a disservice.
These movies are closing on 30 years old. Of course they are dated. But they aren't cheesy, and they paved the way for legit superhero movies like we enjoy today.

Burton had to walk a fine line. Most people who didn't read the strip only knew Batman from the Campy Classic.
He had to try and appease the tv fans and the comic book fans and I think he did fantastic job.
Nicholson was praised for his Joker and yet now, some idiots try to mock his version.
Nothing more than older folks liking what they grew yup watching and you YOU YOUNG PUNKS not staying off my lawn!

I love Burton's Batman films and yes for their time they were amazing. I grew up on them, and of course you have to give him credit for inventing (for all intents and purposes) the gritty superhero movie.
But Nolan fully realized that potential and so now the Burton films have lost a lot of that novelty.

The new ones are just as silly, in their own way. At least Burton's films don't act smarter than they really are.
