If you're right handed, you should reel with your left hand. If not, you're dumb because you have to switch hands before you start reeling. Waisted time and energy.

Control the line with your right hand, reel with the left. Have right hand holding the rod so you can set it quicker and with more power

Doesn't feel right/correct.

Eta: I knew a guy who tried to spout off this bull shite at a camp the night before we went fishing. He lasted all of 6 casts the next morning before admitting defeat.

Also, put your underwear on before you put your pants on.

with baitcasters, I'm usually casting with 2 hands, so this doesn't matter, but I do reel with my right hand

but I reel with my left hand for spinning rods...

If you are a great fisherman like myself, you cast and reel with either hand indiscriminately and equally awesome.

Right-handed reelers do not get this concept. I've even seen them put socks over boots

This man speaks the truth!

Right handed, I cast left handed, reel right. Plus in a long day of fishing you can switch hands and cut fatigue down.

Went on an inshore charter in OB a few years ago and got stuck with a spinning reel that had the handle permanent on the right side of the reel...MISERABLE, I looked like I was having a seizure.

Casting = reel with right
Spinning = reel with left

If you do it any other way you are a high functioning tard and I am amazed you can log on to a computer.

I grew up floating the upper reaches of all the Florida Parishes' rivers. I had to learn to cast from every possible position and angle to hit a spot the size of a ball cap from a moving boat. My old man used to make me pay him from my piggy bank (mine was actually a He-Man bank) for any baits lost. At the time I thought he was just a mean old man, but I will now be eternally grateful he did it that way.

Baitcaster: reel with right
Spinning: Reel with left

Tangent: this commercial disturbed me so much because you can tell those kids had never fished.

I guess I'm retarded. I don't mind switching hands after I cast though. It just feels natural dammit!! Where is mjeaux2 to defend us right handed reelers?

That's how I do it

and MJ2 will be here shortly to try to convince everyone that this is so incredibly wrong we should never fish again

This is how EVERYONE does it.

There is a reason that all baitcaster reels are sold with the handles on the right (Yes, I know they are reversible, but the default setting is the right) and spinning reels are sold with the handle on the left (yes, again, I know they are reversible.)
