Mickey & O'Bryant(most of the time) are the only guys on our team with any kind of basketball IQ.

People are ripping Jones, but I'm not sure how receptive our team is to coaching. Thankfully he's infusing new talent.

Can it be taught? Or is it something we need to pin point in recruiting?

I think it can be taught to an extent, not as much as most make it out to be.

He knows his role and generally plays within himself. He's really refined his game this year

I'm not sure id say he plays within himself

Anyways I think it's teachable
Hell look at the way larry browns team played tonight...that had to be taught IMO

I think stringer has it as well. Martin doesnt, neither does hickey

Always making the extra pass
Always pulling it out when they didn't have numbers
Using shot clock
All can be taught IMO

Lester I think basketball IQ is synonymous with natural basketball instincts....BUT I do think with some maturity you pick up on play basketball a little more smartly

Stringer was better this year than years past, esp with his shot selection. Still with his size limitations it's easy to give him a pass for what he's asked to do

Yes

But you need to have a coach, not just a recruiting coordinator

Geaux23 playing at home makes it so much easier to play like SMU did tonight.

i agree

but be serious, that had alot more to do with great coaching and great execution than it did home court advantage

Eh....Larry brown did have a huge advantage in coaching.... But if SMU doesn't hit open shots then we're playing in overtime.....it's the same principle as to why Arky played so well at home but was just average on the road.

I think Coleman and Quarterman have better bball IQs than O'Bryant

they hit alot of open shots
but they also got great looks at the goal, several alley-oops, tons of momentum plays as a result of playing sound offensively....
once you hit a few easy shots and have some momentum plays those open jump shots get a whole lot easier

I would like to see Johnny hire a coach that's concentrated in the coaching throughout the game area....Brady had a very good one who helped him make adjustments when LSU made the tourney a few years ago

I very rarely find myself scratching my head at what Coleman is doing when he's on the floor either.

Hickey is brutal, and Martin just hasn't played much basketball. He seems like he could grow into it since he's got so little in-game experience.

Depends on the player. All these guys lack fundamentals in a bad way. Going to take a guy like Martin longer than others, i think/hope he could make a big leap next year.

i think Gray and Hornsby are gonna do wonders for this

Starting lineup is this next year

Gray
Mickey
Martin
Robinson
Hickey - but wouldn't surpise me to see Hornsby give him a run

definitely curious to see what Horsby can do. HE seems like he'll bring some much needed energy as well.
