Since we are "struggling" to hit the ball like we did in the past few seasons, which people seem to be forgetting we lost our HR hitter, Katz, and our singles champ, Rhymes, along with Ross and Jacoby Jones.
This kind of baseball was expected.
It is coming down to pitching this season. We might end up improving our hitting but it isn't going to be anything that I keep seeing people expect.
So let's compare us to the UCLA team that won a title last season through 24 games.
UCLA 2013

LSU 2014

UCLA - 5.58
LSU - 6.54

UCLA - 3.08
LSU - 2.08

I just wanted people to have some perspective of where we are this season. We are going to struggle at the plate but that isn't as big an issue with our pitching

Basically, it's early
People need to relax some. I really think this pitching staff is getting better. Bouman coming back strengthens the rotation and we are pretty deep in the bullpen. If we can just improve a little on offense, I think we're going to be just fine. May be a little bit too positive in this team, but I'm not getting the doom and gloom.

How are you getting UCLA's stats through certain games?
Posted on 3/23/14 at 10:47 pm to tadelatt
The problem is not so much hitting as it is TIMELY hitting.
2 runs today on 11 hits is pretty unacceptable. Too many runners being left in base.

Do you have any stats on how well UCLA hit against Grambling, UNO, Yale, and Southern?

What about strength of schedule comparison through 24 games?

Can we compare how many 0-2 counts we get into? How many double plays hit into? How many risp stranded?

Good pitching, good defense, and timely hitting. It's not a secret, that's how you win baseball games.

I'm gonna have to agree with some of these guys and say its not that we don't have decent stats. It's the fact that we aren't smashing the teams we're "suppose" to smash and we can't get a "timely" hit to save our lives! I don't think we have had a two out base knock with a guy in scoring position in the 6 SEC games we have played.

UCLA was such a bullshite national champion.
Mississippi State was a better team than them. New Rosenblatt is just so much deeper than your average college park. It's stupid.

No...
UCLA pitching would've shut dat arse down regardless of the park.

Maybe State was a bad example. But how many deep balls did we hit to the track against Plutko?

I would imagine everyone gets these early on.
They had a full series with Wright St. (wtf?)
Then Longbeach St & Cal State Northridge

We are fine guys. Last year was unlike any other as far as wins...cant expect that every year. I also feel like we peaked maybe too soon last year. Just hope we get hot when it matters..thats all you gotta do in baseball
