Was planning on smoking a butt on the ol smoker today but the wind, rain, & the fact that I'm out of charcoal & don't want to go to the store has me searching for other options. I've never done one in the oven or slow cooker & thought I may give it a try, anybody got a recipe or technique they use for either oven or slow cooker? I dry rubbed the roast ( approx 4/5 lbs) & let it sit in the icebox overnight. To aid in the manufacturing of smoke taste, I have liquid smoke &/or mesquite wood chips (the wood chips I would use for an oven method, although I've never used wood chips in an oven?) TIA

I can't even imagine the stank that would reside up in your house after that!

If it's already rubbed just throw it in the slow cooker with a tad of water and maybe a little soy sauce or Worcestershire sauce and some liquid smoke.

It'll be just fine.

please don't put wood chips in your oven. I can only imagine bad things coming from that

Would be in the outdoor kitchen w plenty of windows, I've soaked them in water before & put them in a container covered with foil & pokes a few holes to let wood steam/smoke escape when I've done. Ribs in the oven & it was good-outdoor kitchen got a little "smokey" but I don't live in there, so once it aired out, it was ok

Also, realized I was out of beer so I had to go to the store, picked up charcoal & doin it the ol fashioned way. Thanks for the help

I prefer the oven. On a rack, over a pan. I always find the slow cooker makes it a bit mushy, due to the high moisture/fat content of a butt.

slow cooker

whole jar of kraut on top then whole tub of mustard with caraway seeds. Add dark beer. German Pulled pork! Always get compliments as it is different than the usual BBQ style.
