seems to have good reviews. I have a 2 1/2 year old netgear one that doesn't seem to handle tablets and cellphones that well. Came from ATT.

I have the RT N-65U. Switched over from Linksys and have not looked back. Strong signals throughout house plus all of the wireless devices connected with a whole home networked. They make good products.

I've had that one for about a year after my AirPort Extreme crapped out. It is blazingly fast and super easy to set up. No problems or complaints from me.

RT-AC68U

That is the one I have and I love it. If it is anything like that then it will be an animal.

It's arguably the best home wireless "n" router available. The RT-68 mentioned by the poster above me is one of few that tops it. It's wireless AC so there's more bandwidth for moving stuff around your own network. If you use a lot of devices and a large home media collection that gets streamed, consider an AC router. Otherwise, the one you mentioned is a fantastic piece of equipment.

How's the firmware on Asus routers? I know that replacing the stock firmware on my Linksys E4200 with Tomato Toastman was the best thing I ever did. I believe he also supports some of the Asus routers as well. It would be a consideration for me if I ever have to replace my router.

Best router you can get. No issues with mine for several yrs. Very fast. Might want to check with your internet service provider regarding the speed of your plan. That might be an issue.

I don't own one personally, but from what I've read the stock firmware on them is pretty good. It's even got an integrated VPN feature if I'm not mistaken (though undoubtedly your e4200 could support that with the right firmware, too).

I'm probably moving in the near future, and my landlords currently own all the networking equipment I'm using. I'm torn between buying the RT-AC68U and using my Linksys ea4500 which has a busted "internet" port as an access point with a desktop running my DHCP to save some money. The Asus would be the better choice. The latter would really just be me being a nerd.

I've had mine going on a year. No problems so far. It has all the bells and whistles. The stock firmware is just flat awesome. I really want to put Tomato or WWRT on it but I don't have the balls to mess with it. Make sure you get the lastes firmware for it because there is some security issues if you are using the Cloud service.

When it comes to routers, I like the Asus RT-N66u, but if you plan to get a new smartphone or laptop this year, it'll probably come with wireless-ac, so you should consider our step-up model, the RT-AC66U.

If you own this or another Asus router like the RT-N56U, N66U, or AC68U, update your firmware immediately to prevent attackers from accessing USB storage devices attached to your router. It's a good idea to download the firmware from the Asus website to ensure you get the very latest version. A full update to this guide is coming in March.
