I wants the Shalene. I wants bad.

I read the books and saw the movie last night. I thought it was very good. Worth seeing for sure

My 13 year old daughter liked it.

It was pretty good. Very similar to hunger games. Though this movie had more of an ending with opening for the next one

Entertaining of you have to bring your kid, I don't think I'd have seen it otherwise.
My 14 year old thought it dragged in some parts.

Really? She absolutely bugs me for some reason. Just cannot sit through any movie with her in it.

Just saw it, and I enjoyed it.
It is the first of the series, so like the first Hunger Games, it takes a while to set the plot but it picks up to a very good climax.
I don't think it's appropriate for younger kids without parental supervision IMO. Some parts were violent and in one scene, the main protagonist (a female) takes a serious beating from a guy. There are a many of other scenes that are bloody. Not really much as far as bad language that I noticed.
There will be comparisons to Hunger Games. One of the first that I can draw is that the villain is sort of an entity created by government system instead of the generic Hollywood standard "EvilCorp" or some villain company.
I would definitely go see it. It may not be the best move you'll see all year, but it will be far from the worst.

The Gawker "profile" on her a couple days ago made her seem really annoying.

And that's the target audience. From what I understand, if you're not in this demographic, then you won't like it.

That's not really at all what I would say after having watched it.
It's a bit violent and dark for that. Very similar to Hunger Games, IMO. Should have a broad appeal.
If you are the type of guy that doesn't like movies that feature a female as the main protagonist, then don't go see it.

I feel like she is being force fed to all of us as the new Jennifer Lawrence. I've seen her all over TV and she's terribly annoying.

Thinking about seeing it this week. Is it better than Hunger Games or about the same in terms of quality?

Saw it this morning didn't think I would enjoy it but ended up liking it a lot, probably bc it resembles the hunger games

Saw it tonight. A couple big changes from the book, which took away from the movie a little bit. Other than that, I really enjoyed it though.
Question for others who have read the books and seen the movie, but SPOILERS…
So in the end they changed that Trice found 4 in the Dauntless headquarters under the stronger simulation made for divergents and running the dauntless army simulation. In the movie he is under the simulation but just sitting there and all of the Erudite people are there running the simulation. I have only read through the second book, and my question is they make a big deal in the second book at Candor about if they can trust four or not and put him under the truth serum. This was a really big moment in the second book and not sure how they can do it in the movie now, because he never really did anything wrong. Just wanted to discuss this potential plot hole in the movie now.

Enjoyed it.
Liked Hunger Games more, but Divergent was a very fun watch. Wifey and I thought it was well worth a watch.

Had the ending of the series spoiled for me, so that may bias me a bit, saw it did not think it was good enough to watch beyond this one. Story was weak. Universe wasn't well setup, just felt like this was just a cash grab of using the same post apocalyptic strong female lead as some other series.

The books were written well after Hunger Games so it kinda is. This won't be the only one.
However, I do feel the story stands alone. I read all 3 of the books and thought the movie was well done. The changes they made worked for creating tension on screen.
I still like Hunger Games better but Divergent is a fine movie.
