I turned off my Honda Pilot then tried to turn it right back on and the engine won't start. The key will turn but the steering wheel and brakes are locked. The battery is good and the radio and such comes on but no engine. Thoughts?

Put it in park and jerk the shite out of the wheel to the left and right.

Turn the wheel to the right while tuning the key.

My wife's Honda lock up the same way.

Maybe open the hood. Disconnect the battery.

Use a hacksaw to saw off any large metal piece connected to the motor that you can find.

Then try to start it.

This might work.

What Broke said. I have done quite a few road calls where this was the solution.

There is a transmission interlock switch, it is what keeps the starter from turning over when the car is in gear, and it sometimes either sticks or if you park and the car rolls back or forward it will engage.

The people who said to jerk the wheel are correct. Other method is to leave the car in park and roll it hard back and forth, then put it in neutral and roll to a flat spot. Put back in park and try.

Appreciate the help. The mechanic I called says my starter is dead so it looks like I'll be needing a tow.

Too much trouble to try to fix it simply yourself by trying our solution I guess.

Tow truck - $150
Mechanic yanks wheel and tells you he replaced starter - $400

Profit - ???? Nope.

I'm pretty sure what you told him would have solved the problem and saved them some money. It's a common problem.
