It’s hard to believe now, but one of college football’s coaching legends could’ve been part of the Atlanta Braves during the franchise’s glory years.

Ohio State coach Urban Meyer was selected out of high school by the Braves in the 13th round of the 1982 MLB Draft and played two years in the minors.

Meyer was a slick-fielding infielder with the Braves but struggled at the plate with a .182 batting average. It was an injury to his throwing arm that finally convinced Meyer to hang up the cleats and pursue his now-legendary football coaching career

Urban was juicing, thus leading to his heart problems

He easily could've played in the early 90s.

As a Braves fan and a hater of OSU and Urban Meyer I could have done without that tidbit of trivia.

The article said he played alongside Ron Gant and Mark Lemke (and is roughly the same age as both of them). Gant and Lemke were both on the teams of the early-mid90s. If he had stuck it out and had a good 10-15 year career (including the minors) he would have had a couple of NL rings and possible a WS ring.
