Tomorrow morning, I am having my 3rd back surgery in 2 years. This one will be a fusion so it will have me down for a while. I decided to get in one last hunt this morning with a buddy, and got outsmarted by the biggest bird I've ever seen. We set up about 10-15 yards too far down the road and he never gave us a shot. He did give us a hell of a show, though.

I guess my real reason for starting this thread wasn't to tell y'all about the hunt, but to ask for prayers. That and to remind everyone to wear a safety harness. I'd be hunting next weekend if I'd been wearing one the day I fell.

I'll trade you the bird for a hooch deer.

ETA: Did Itismemc tell you who is doing the surgery?

Haley. This is the first time I've dealt with him. What an awesome guy. I wish I'd gone to him in the beginning.

There's easier ways to get pain meds than agreeing to surgery

best of luck to you, man...post here as soon as you feel up to it to let us know how you are doing...

I have to second your endorsement of harnesses...I know a suprising number of folks who have fallen while using a climbing stand...a number of them are going through exactly the same thing as you due to resulting back injury...

the worst was paralyzed from the neck down for several years and has since passed away from complications...

again, prayers sent for your return to good health...

Thanks for the prayers, everyone. I will update when I get out. I actually fell from a ladder stand. Squirrels had chewed the straps and when I got to the top and turned to sit down, it went over.
I count my blessings every day that I'm alive, but I know I'm not the only one in this thread.
