My wife just bought me one for V-day. I haven't done much experimenting with it other than just making coffee. I use medium coarse beans from my local shop.

We have one and rarely use it. It results in a mild, fairly thin coffee. The carafe doesn't hold heat, so your second cup out of the same extraction will probably be less than hot.

Pluses--it's low tech, so you can make coffee during a power outage. And the very clear extraction means leftover coffee makes nice granita or coffee sorbet.

We use it every once in a while, but mostly prefer a cheap french press. I like my coffee to have more body than the Chemex imparts.
