The Story

The TD Thread

Quotes from the thread
quote:

Realistically, I think the best case scenario for us this cycle is as follows:

- We qualify. It won't be pretty, but we get in.
- We either make the knockout round and lose immediately or we don't make it at all.
- The Klinsmann Experiment ends.

quote:

Not nearly as far as missing the next World Cup would. Some games would be broadcast in prime time instead of 6 AM, ratings would pop and money would flow into the game.

As it stands right now, we're sliding back to 1989, where we'll be reliant on a wonder strike from a defender to even qualify.

quote:

Barring a World Cup championship victory over Mexico culminating in Landon Donovan taking a steamy dump on Rafa Marquez's face, I would not bring him back for sure.

Figured with yesterday's news, now is a good time to look back to where the team was just a year ago.

I'll admit that I was too down on him. Still don't think he's great tactically but I'm glad I was wrong.

I'm still not a huge fan of his, but a lot of that is because people like to associate him with everything good that happens at any level of American soccer.

Happy to see that I didn't post in that thread. However, I have a little bit of crow to eat, regardless.

Mostly what joey barton said. I will give (and have given) Klinsmann credit for the way he responded. He has cleared up virtually every allegation in the article. That takes a lot of resolve for someone in his position, because most would respond with "frick you, I'm the coach."

Of course, that also leads me to believe that most of the allegations were true, and the team was indeed in turmoil at that point.

I think it's also safe to assume that Carlos Bocanegra was the mole. He was stripped of his captaincy that week and has seen neither hide nor hair of the national team since.

Maybe, but I think the cancer of the whole situation was Timmy Chandler based on the fact that he is the only germerican that hasn't been called up since that article hit.

I don't believe that at all. If he were healthy and the World Cup started tomorrow, he would be there.

Let's say the allegations were true to a T. If so, they way Klinsmann has changed shows why he is an excellent coach. The problem with so many coaches is not that they are stupid, but their ego is tied up with the work they do. Klinsmann showed almost supernatural patience, and put the team before his own ego, and has reaped the results. The quality to set aside the ego is a hard one to find in any human being, let alone someone who has achieved a lot at the highest level. That mere fact alone makes what Klinsmann did all the more impressive.

Hasn't he not been even called into a camp since the loss at Honduras?

They have tried to get him in, but something always comes up (injury, needs rest, etc.)

That was when they were still trying to captie him 2011-12. Since the Honduras game, Klinsi has balked at every question about Chandler.

I don't think he will be making a US camp for quite some time.

Thing with Chandler is it always seems to be something why he never shows up after getting a cap. I don't think his heart was every there. Until then it's time to move on and give the spot to someone that's hungry for it.

Which is stupid because it's not like he can still hang Germany over our head, like he did in 2011 and 2012.
