Doesn't appear to be a lab. What breed did y'all end up going with? And where did y'all end up getting him/her from?

Boykin Spaniel.... Breeder met us just this side of atlanta... Found him through "dog network" that is my 35 or so years messing with bird dogs.... relative that it is a vet in that part of the world knew we were looking for one and reached out to him and put us in touch.
wife happy, son happy, me happy, pup happy...
now all we need it grizz to pop back up..
looking back this is the youngest I have had a dog go in the water without following another dog...
had him out by a neighborhood lake for a bit sat.. and somebody asked if he was a labradoodle... that guy couldn't swim very well.....

yep.... had him at JRs baseball game sat - in NOLA... guy there had an awesome 5 month old Brit. Lab(WELL ON IT's WAY!) those two pups kept a handful of kids occupied for most of the doubleheader...
looks like the dog coaching at our house has gone to a new chapter.. JR will train - I am the bird boy... I am largely sitting back and taking most of it in...
