People can literally wear the same thing, different brands and one look cheap and the other expensive...

Anything designer, think a 200 buck DenimScience graphic T. My frat gear is much cheaper than my professional stuff, but they don't label where.

The elite brands are too loud to really signify money to me. Plenty of middle class folks get high end clothing, bags, etc.
For subtle stuff, I assume guys decked out in Orvis are probably well to do. Old guys wearing Tommy Bahama, too. That stuff isn't cool enough to attract folks who are buying it to play a part.

Lululemon for girls.
Same shite as Nike at twice the price.

Elite brands don't always have their logo on it. So it's literally just a better quality/cut garment.

Bapes, Coogi and big pony polo.

I know a guy sponsored by them. he's not 'well to do'

Agree, but for that reason it is hard to decipher. I can tell the difference between a good suit and a bad suit, but differentiating between a well tailored 500 dollar HSM suit and a 2500 bespoke suit isn't that easy. Moreover, I pay attention to such things, but I've certainly seen 30 dollar ties that hold up well next to Hermes or Zegnas in passing.

A watch
Should cost as much as a decent used car.

Could be. Now I don't think either signify glamorous wealth, but I don't know many guys into fly fishing that aren't well off.
It's boring, which is why I set it apart from frattier brands that are more sought.
IMO it's difficult to spot money with girls simply because spending tons of money (whether you have it or not) on clothes is part of modern female culture. Same thing for frat guys.
Most of the wealthier girls I know wear bland-bordering-on-sloppy clothes a lot. They look good, but they're not dressed up like reality tv stars every day.

The ones buying the stuff with the obnoxious logos usually bought it on credit.
