Still in search of first turkey and closer to getting in in Bowling than hunting and I bowl in the 160's typically. I need a box call or something that makes the simple cluck sound. My hot box makes it sound too much like a yelp and I hear clucks every hunt. (It did get two hens yelping back at me for about half an hour Saturday but no gobbler ever showed up. ) I need something for the simple clucks, etc. Any advice appreciated.

Get a diaphragm and learn how to use it. It's a lifetime of use after you learn. I use a slate while birds are on the limb then switch to diaphragm. I don't own a box.

Nope. Just one. KR bought a duck call.

Stoney will put whatever graphics you want on the slate. They are the best slates that I've found. Very soft clucks and purrs.

By cluck do you mean cut?

The ones that I've done so far (4 of them) are very good at cuts and purrs. As Choirboy told me, they definately have a sweet spot and I'm going to try and work and make it a little better but the saounds vary greatly across the face.

Like I said, this is just a hobby and I'm apparently not a very good turkey hunter but I have fun and enjoy making things.

I sold the others for $40/each.

There's this Heimlich call that came out in the 80's that works like a charm, but you don't see it used too much these days.
