How many of your professors required volunteer work during college?

I have had two so far that required it. My professor is pitching it as "this service promotes the spirit of volunteerism and instills the value of giving back to the community."

No. I am not doing something I do not get credit hours for.

None. Sounds lame. I had to do an unpaid internship in government (worked for Bill Frist when he was Senate Majority Leader) but that was a requirement for my major.

I had a professor give bonus points for a certain number of hours of community service, but none that required it.

I feel the same way, but it is a requirement.

Is it really volunteer work if it's required?

Enforced how? What's the course? Is this guy an endowed chair, or some junior associate professor who just got tenure?

Well to be fair she did label it as service learning.

It goes in a career E-Portfolio and she will not accept it without all components. Senior seminar and I think she is a new professor, though I'm not 100% because the class is online.

Don't want to highjack, but are female professors common at LSU? I'm honestly curious.

I've taken two. THey are known as "service-learning" classes.

Go volunteer for 15 hrs over the whole semester and write about it and you have 33% of your grade taken care of. Pretty easy if you ask me.

My bad. I had three female profs in my four years as an undergrad: One was very young and very attractive; one was young, mildly attractive, and clearly not into men; and one was nearing retirement. All were extremely competent and intelligent, but a little esoteric.

Pretty flaky.

I had one that required it, but the word "service" was used loosely. My service was helping set up the ole Governors Mansion for Christmas, fluffing up the Christmas tree. I spent 10 hours working on that tree.

They're setting you up for how much you'll end up getting paid with your BS degree. 0.

I had never heard of it until this semester. My girlfriend has to do it. Glad I got a real degree.
