I wonder where Putin keeps his money.

The EU has agreed to impose travel bans and asset freezes against 21 officials from Russia and Ukraine.
quote:
The so-far unnamed individuals targeted by the sanctions are seen as having played a key role in the referendum, which Kiev, the US and EU deem illegal.
I wonder where Putin keeps his money.

Lithuania's Foreign Minister Linas Linkevic tweeted that further measures were expected to be taken in the next few days.

First Western response to Russian invasion of Crimea
What are we trying to achieve?

And Russia has already responded by threatening to switch to other currencies.

Punishment for those involved in the taking of Crimea and perhaps to encourage other Russians with money to lobby the government against further agitation with the West.
It's one of the sanctions the President of Georgia suggested.

Right now, there are plenty of things the U.S. and the European Union can do to try to stop Putin from escalating the Ukraine crisis into all out war, he said. There should be immediate economic sanctions, with the West going after Putin’s vast personal wealth and that of his friends. The U.S. can also help Ukraine defend itself by sharing military intelligence, defending Ukraine from cyber attacks, giving Kiev’s armed forces training and even equipment, and moving NATO naval forces into the region as a show of strength, Saakashvili said.

Switching to other currencies in what context ?

Per the BBC the French are suspending the sale of helicopter carriers and the Uk is suspending all arm export licenses to Russia. The EU and US are planning further sanctions to be announced soon.

If they align with the Chinese, the Euro and the dollar will tank. At best, massive inflation in the U.S. and Eurozone, at worse, a collapse of the dollar.
Putin is playing us like a fiddle.
Putin is playing us like a fiddle.

You don't come across as knowing what you're talking about

Move the G8 summit, and suspend or expel Russia from the G8.

I think that's coming and would be a slap in the face considering Putin is currently the G8 President

The UK is suspending all military co-operation with Russia, including arms exports, because of Russian actions in Crimea, Foreign Secretary William Hague tells parliament. Joint naval exercises between Russia, France, Britain and the US have been put on hold.

It'd be a praiseworthy response.
As I type this...I see that Russia has been suspended from the G8 today:
quote:
Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius has said the Group of Eight suspended Russia’s participation in their meetings. However, President Putin is still invited to visit France on June 6.
“At the moment, he is still invited. As for the G8 as a political formation for the dialogue of all big states together, we have decided to suspend the participation of Russia, there will be seven countries that gather [for the summit] – without Russia,” Fabius told Europe 1 radio.

Yeah, not likely. There isn't enough value in other world currencies to dump the EUR and the USD at the same time.

Now Putin can turn around and announce he is suspending the G7 from participating in his G1 meeting

I guess they will tank the £ and Swiss franc as well.

And Russia has already responded by threatening to switch to other currencies.

I have no doubt that Putin is thinking that he might be able to achieve this goal. However, I see no way (at present) he could destroy other currencies without a lot of help.

Really? Then who's going to buy all the incredibly expensive Chinese shite? China will have no one to sell to and thus will lose income.
