Because this is how you coach basketball.

Billy D >>>>>

We should model our program like Florida as far as basketball

Donovan is probably a top three coach in the country. Maybe the best.

The most incredible part about this UF team is all these guys arent even NBA players. They are just good college guys who stuck around for 4 years. The only one with a hope of being drafted this year is Patric Young at the end of the 2nd round.

I could very easily see Jones in his third year next year equaling Billy Ds mark of 22-9.

For the record I am not insinuating Jones is as good of a coach as the criminally underrated Billy Donovan. Just pointing out how idiotic this thread is by comparing Jones in his second year to one of the nations best in Donovan in his 18th

Eh, I'm still not sold on JJ. All he has done is get a lot of talent interested and coming here but manage it very poorly thus far. I feel like last year he felt like he had to really coach because he had a worse team and this year things would just happen due to our talent level.

Weigh the value of things like having all of your recruits and not someone else's.

Look at UGA this year. How in the world do they become so much better than last year's dumpster fire squad led by a freakin' NBA Lottery Pick? Chemistry and program building are real concepts. Give it more time.

You mean they didn't fire him after that?

Billy Donovan is a GREAT coach. BUt, he took awhile to get it going at UF.

We should have no discussion of firing JJ until he gets 5 years to fully implement a system/program.

I have a often wondered had Dale Brown retired a year earlier would Billy Donovan have been on Joe Dean's short list. The picture was a lot bleaker in 1997 with the NCAA investigation in full swing and pending sanctions.

I definitely didn't start this thread comparing Jones to Dovanan, I was simply implying that Jones needs to be taking notes of this Florida team, and should be modeling the program after this one. It is a proven model.

Billy D is definitely one of the best ever. Only 13 coaches have ever won multiple titles in basketball and only three of them are still coaching in college. He could possibly add to his total this year and tie for 3rd most all time.

In his 3rd year he went to the Sweet 16 and in his 4th year they were the NCAA Runner up.

I hope JJ does well. He doesn't need reach Billy D heights to make most LSU fans happy. He seems to have the recruiting part down (which is always really important). The other part (game day coaching), I'm not sold on yet. If after four years, we haven't made an NCAA tournament, then then I think we re-evaluate things.

I he more than likely gets that whether or not we discuss it here or not.

Again, I think we should give CJJ the benefit of the doubt that he will learn to coach at this level and develop his coaching and improve.

Because this year was not his best. He's got an all-star recruiting staff, but there needs to be some development of a better system to get the best out of the talent they are bringing in.

Don't look now but this Florida team is completely falling apart down the stretch.

After LSU's first CBI victory, the presser will include Johnny saying

"Well all year we've been trying to figure out how to play defense. All I had to do was watch the SEC tournament final."
