The most under appreciated body of water in the state.

I used to love the BonIdee. Haven't fished it in 20 years though.

Nice mess!

When Greg Hackney lived in Oak Ridge he was asked what his favorite pleasure fishing body of water was and said the Bonne Idee, hands down. Which surprised me what with the D'arbonnes, Caney's and whatnot around here. I tend to agree him though. A man can go chunk spinnerbaits and drink beer in peace out there, and more times than not come back with enough fish to stink the grease up. The Bonne Idee

Tried the perch for damn near an hour though and didn't get a bite. Still a few days away on them apparently..

It is a hidden gem in the NELA quadrant of the Sportsman's Paradise.

I couldn't get em to bite, but I'm no perch whisperer. I normally pick up one or two whilst bass fishing too, and that didn't happen either. It can't be too much longer though.

It always amazed me how many perch me and my pops would pull out of there on a black and chartreuse jig with a red head in muddy as all get out water. Me and my pops had many a great time at the Bonne Idee. Let me know when you hear of the perch turning on and I will ride up to make a trip with my pops for old time's sake.

I've got an inside source on the Bonne Idee perch bite intel, I will keep you informed.

Another Bonne Idee tale: one time when I was 6-7 me, pops and pow pow made trip to the upper section to target the perch. Put in at hwy 2. Started fishing right at the ramp and commenced to pulling em in right off the bat. Pow Pow caught the biggest perch of seen to this date that morning. We caught em about 2 hours then Pow Pow dropped his insulin over the side of the boat trying to shoot him self up. Him being such a bad diabetic we had to shut her down and haul arse to Monroe. I think I cried when we were leaving bad enough to piss pops off and cause him to not take me back over there.

At least it was in your blood at such a young age.

I took some buddies to the ramp off of Fluker Road during spring break with my old man's boat around 16 years old or so to camp out and run yo-yo's. We built a fire that evening and ran lines all night. My Pops was coming that next morning to take us pole fishing. He showed up at daylight with a couple dozen donuts and we were in piss poor shape, telling tall tales, listening to music, and poking the fire when he showed up. Needless to say he wasn't amused at the fact he had to gather the fish that were hanging, break camp, and fish by himself that morning. I wasn't allowed to take the boat for a while after that one.

Me and a buddy of mine used to run out there and put the boat in late in the evening. Around 5 pm or so and fish till dark. 15 to 20 was the normal haul. We did this on the regular. Watermelon red baby brush hog was the thing to use. Haven't done it in several years though. I need to get back to trying it. Teyeger, if you need someone to tag along, give me a call! I know of a place or two to hit. Lost landing used to be a good place to start.

Just heard a yesterday report of 24 slabs caught in the middle section on the first set of trees out from the bank. Apparently the perch were biting somewhat. Just not if my jigs. Which is typical

I've always said if you want the fish to stop biting then just let me go fishing.

My daughter has been in me about taking her fishing so I will prolly go find them and then take her with me one day.

I'd be willing to bet those slabs were pulled around noon yesterday.
