Stolen from cracked.com.

I'm far from a fan of taxpayers paying for anything for the sake of people capable of working, but this kind of makes sense and I think it would save us a frickload of money (falls into the pay poor women to get their tubes tied deal). A lot of opponents of legalizing drugs like to bring up the increase in crime that would result (which I totally disagree would happen). But that problem would be eliminated by simply giving drugs away to addicts: why rob/steal to pay for drugs when you can get them for nothing? If this saved money, would that change the minds of anyone against legalization? For those that are pro-legalization, would this be an acceptable way to meet in the middle?

If someone wants to get high/drunk, laws aren't stopping him.

I would support this. If there's any highly unlikely crime increase happening, this would contain and neutralize it.

I'm not sure I understand the plan. What is the incentive for those making the drugs?

We're already giving money to folks to keep them from stealing.

I guess it would be the government giving the job to the lowest bidder. Obviously there's room for corruption there, but I'm just looking for a legit middle ground.

ETA: it certainly wouldn't be Mexico anymore.
