PC question

My gaming desktop has been turning itself off the last few days. I thought it might be a power supply problem since when I put ramp up the cpu load, it shuts itself off. I ordered a new power supply and just put it in and about 2 minutes later, back off.
When I went in to replace the power supply, I noticed a little bit of goo on a heatsink below my cpu/heatsink and my heatsink was a little loose. I have either the Corsair H55 or the H70 heatsink set. Would thermal paste melt and drip out from behind the heatsink if it were a little loose and would this cause the computer to just shut itself off?

Thermal paste generally doesn't melt over time. It hardens. And if you've got it dripping out from between your heatsink and CPU, you've got a problem. You either applied way too much, or you didn't seat your block properly (or both). Pretty likely your computer is shutting off because your CPU is overheating. Make sure the pump and fan are working as well.

Ijust pulled the whole H70 out and installed the stock heatsink/fan that came with the cpu. Going to see if that takes care of it, if it does I will just order another H70 next week and install when it gets in. I am leaning to the head of the H70 finally starting to leak after about 4 years of hard use.

Installed the stock heatsink and it has been running stable for the last hour or two at 100% cpu. The h70 head looks like it started leaking a little right around the end of it and probably wasn't working anymore. Lucky it didn't short anything else inside my case.
