I know we as fans want teams like Michigan and Florida State in home and homes series but this likely is a thing of the past. Marquee teams like this don't want to give up a home game to go play at team like LSU on the road. The costs involved in a major school traveling for a non conference road game is pretty big. You also loose all the revenue you could have made from a playing a cream puff at home. Sure you have to pay them a basically appearance fee for them to show up but you keep at the concessions, tickets, etc. revenue. On the other hand marquee neutral site games are attractive to teams. Get a partner like ESPN or ABC involved and you can get two great teams to play a game in prime time on national T.V. with guaranteed money thrown at both teams.

quote:

The richest payout previously went to LSU and Oregon in the 2011 edition of the Cowboys Classic that featured a matchup of preseason top-five teams. LSU’s guarantee last year was $3.5 million, while Oregon took $2 million.

That was 3.5 million dollars for one game and includes all the great national pub you got. This is big time in the eyes of recruits. I like Marquee Home and Home games like everyone else but these Netural Site games are here to stay.

Maybe I'm being a little naive, but I think the new playoff will force teams to reevaluate their scheduling. These committee members aren't just going to take the four highest ranked teams.

You mean the economic impact for LSU or for Baton Rouge? It's all about TV dollars now.

What needs to happen is the playoff committee needs to mandate that BCS conferences schedule against each other, two games from a designated conference each season and one from another designated conference. If the institutions want neutral sites for one of those games, so be it, but as a season ticket holder, I would prefer it be home and home.

At this point, the PAC-12 would be at a disadvantage with 9 scheduled conference games, meaning they only have one rent-a-win spot.

The D-II scheduling needs to be stopped though.

Meh. Spend $80,000,000 on a stadium expansion, open the season 300 miles away while the shiny new portion of the stadium sits waiting for Sam Houston State.

Ol Joe loves his money games. 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2016

As sad as this might make you feel, LSU does not care that because we took a home game away from TS, Walk Ones or Pastimes lost valuable money. They could careless about this. Not saying they don't care bout BR and the local economy because I know they do. In the end it is doing what is best for LSU as a brand and for the football program. Neutral site games expose many more people to our university both athletically and academically.

I understand why they happen but, personally, I hate neutral site games. With the increase in neutral site openings and the new playoff, traveling to all theses events becomes extremely expensive, not to mention all the time one would have to take off work.

Take the 2016-17 season, for example. If LSU were to go to National Championship, fans would have to decide on traveling to the following: neutral site game in Green Bay vs Wisconsin, SEC Championship in Atlanta, Semi Final game in either Tempe or Atlanta, and National Championship game in Tampa.

College football is becoming way too commercialized, IMO, and its starting to price out the common fan.

No reason to be a dickface. I was unclear as to what you meant, but I'm pretty sure you're asking how our payout from a regular non-conference home game compares to our payout of playing in a neutral site in one of these kickoff classics. I wouldn't really know where to find the numbers, but when we host a team, we typically have to cut them a pretty fat check. But we also get the revenue from concessions and such. I do know that the payout for playing in these neutral site games is obviously substantial enough for us and other major programs to continue to play them in lieu of home games. Couple that with the difficulty of getting teams to come to BR, and here we are.

what i don't like is taking our "home" games to Texas... we're not Longhorns or Aggies... i believe other than against Tulane and bowl games, LSU has never played in the Superdome...

You have to realize playing a game in Texas opens up the ability for many more Tiger fans to see their team play. Sure Joe Blow from Houma might not be able to go, but what about the fan who lives in Kingwood or Austin. I know for me because I live in Houston and my career, I do not have the ability to travel back to BR for home games much anymore. This gives me a chance to see my Tigers play in my own backyard. Houston has tons of LSU alumni here and there are many more within a easy driving distance of Houston.

I'm not sure if I would have the same mindset if I moved out of Louisiana. I think college football should be played in college stadiums on college campuses. I think it takes away from the gameday experience having to play in Jerryworld or Reliant in Texas.

I guess our fans still think it is the good ole days when we could scheduled USC and Florida State at home and tickets were $10.

Agree 100%. In an ideal world we'd have great marquee home-and-homes every year. This isn't an ideal world. It's a corporate world, major college athletics have become corporate endeavors, LSU athletics is a corporation and we do what is best to push our brand like any other corporation.

I mean, I understand people longing for this, but it just isn't feasible. Obviously
