Which band has most impressive music catalogue: Tool or Metallica

I've seen both bands live and both were incredible experiences. I'm a fan of both bands, but I think Tool has the more impressive catalogue of awesome songs.
We might as well get this question out of the way: Which band is the most awesome band?
Tool

I like Tool, but I don't think they're better than pre-1990 Metallica. Post-1990, Tool.

Both are good. Tool is probably better I think. My friends would disagree.
I don't think any song from Metallica touches Rosetta Stoned or Vicarious personally.

Metallica easily. Death Magnetic is far better than 10,000 Days and about on par with Lateralus and its only Metallica's 6th best album. Their live show is much better too.

He must've been joking when he typed that. Can't be a serious post...

hopefully. 10,000 days was a fantastic album.

that album is their most underappreciated album. It may be the best work they've ever done. Sure, there are extremely drawn out moments of noise. But, that only enhances the incredible songs buried within the album.
Tool has never done anything better than Rosetta Stoned. So far, in my opinion, it is the culmination of their entire musical existence.

very, very, very underappreciated. it's almost comical how people will bash that album because...

this is so true. just a masterpiece, lyrically and musically.

I still wonder how Maynard developed and arranged the lyrics at the beginning of Rosetta Stoned. He's neither singing or rapping. It's more or less spoken word that is both extremely fast and not as fast as it seems. On top of that, he's off beat (which isn't unusual for Tool) but at the same time he's on beat.
Very odd beginning to a song. Incredible.

Metallica. Tool has never done it for me.

10,000 Days is pretentious and boring. Lateralus is just boring. Undertow and Aenima are pretty damn good though.

maynard is simply a genius.
well, the whole band is, to be honest

Tough choice... I'd love to say Tool being they are prob my favorite band, but pre-load Metallica is no slouch.
The problem with a lot of Metallica's 80's stuff is a lot of it sounds the same. Not saying its bad, but its all similar heavy rifts.
I guess I'd have to say Tool by a very small margin.
