Awesome is not even an adjective in Tool's vocabulary. They know two words, dark and brooding. Tool fans bring the band down more if anything. One of the most obnoxious set of fans in music.

This may be the most biased uneducated post in this entire thread....

This x1000.

Not to mention that Maynard James Keenan is a tool himself.

Eta: although so is most of Metallica

Metallica and it's not close. The question is borderline absurd. They laid a cornerstone for shitty music, which doesn't really impress me at all, and I'm not even a Tool fan.

If there's no Metallica, there's no Creed, and that's true.

He kind of is, and so is Thom York, but has nothing to do with their music.

That's like saying country is music for inbred trailer park rednecks.

Well, they all are super rich ego maniacs, so to narrow that stereotype down to just Maynard is pathetic....

The pretentiousness from Tool fans is nauseating. They have to be dry heaving while writing things like "the poetry in maynard's lyrics" or "metallica is for jock/meatheads".

I don't think they can stomach their own smugness.

The best thing Maynard ever did was guest vocals on Rage Against the Machine's "Know Your Enemy."

I respect Carey as a drummer and everything, but overall Tool is such a bore. Their live show was such a disappointment.

Oh I agree. Tool fans can be extremely annoying when they think they are geniuses for deciphering and analyzing maynards lyrics etc and telling every how smart they are because they listen to tool.

i'm not talking about tool fans though.

tool was always on the artistic spectrum.

metallica not so much.

I haven't seen them live in almost 10 years, but their shows were always entertaining. i've been to 5 of them.

There are metal bands that appeal to dumb meat heads, there's metal bands that appeal to stoners, there's metal bands that appeal to music nerds. Depends on the band. All the country fans I've seen are full of rednecks who wear cowboy hats, cowboy boots, and have a mouth full of dip.

Does that really matter? Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets are both critically acclaimed.
