Strategy behind trading sproles to the eagles?

Anyone think that we traded sproles to the eagles (NFC) rather than an AFC team to prevent Kelly from drafting Danthony thomas (since he coached him in college he more than likely wants him)
I prefer archer myself tho, but this gives us a greater chance of getting one of those guys
I think tht the eagles were one of few teams interested in picking DaT early

I think the strategy was they offered the best pick.

No. They offered the highest pick would be my guess.

I think he was traded to the Eagles because they were offering more than most teams and we likely were trying to make things right with Sproles sending him to a place that he was amicable about.
With 10+ teams, we could have likely received an equal or slightly better trade(same round but slightly higher) from a team h would have hated being on.
But no this won't get discussed by the talking heads. I hope Sproles says he wanted to go there and the Saints obliged just to shut them the frick up.

I think they also tried to accommodate Sproles somewhat. Probably one of the better positions he could have been put in

they gave us a draft pic and we got rid of some cap money...not a whole lot of strategy involved there

I totally agree. I was just being kind of a dick.

Folks are putting too much stock in this. A team would have to be pretty pathetic to be willing to get rid of a player yet be terrified of facing that player in a conf game. I doubt our FO gave any real thought to this.....I'd be willing to bet they feel pretty good about our own team.

I don't see how it would necessarily prevent the Eagles from drafting anyone. Sproles only has one year left on his contract, so Kelly could conceivably still draft Thomas in the later rounds to develop with Sproles as a mentor/role model.
But the correct answer is the Eagles gave us the best offer.

Who knows, maybe some "strategy" in dealing with the Eagles... maybe Payton respects Chip Kelly (and vice versa). Make some inroads and do a deal beneficial to all parties, and you might have some future dealings between the two teams.
Similar offensive philosophies mean one team might have a guy on the bubble that is a lock on the other team. In this case, Sproles as a 2nd back in Philly; next time it might be a WR or lineman there coming here. Wouldn't be surprised to see dealings again, before and during training camp.
And while the Eagles are NFC, they aren't in the South, or on top (like the Seahawks or 49ers); we're both teams that would like to see the NFC West teams face another loss.

let that be their mistake.

I agree with this. He is very close to Brees and CSP. The offers were probably close to being equal (5ths) so they let him go to a situation that benefited him as well.

I've seen notes the past two days about the Texans and Redskins supposedly having interest, but the most likely answer to your question is...the Eagles actually offered a pick, whereas the others didn't progress past just talking/didn't offer as high a pick.

You don't like him?
Don't think he will be a very good nfl player. We don't need someone who is just going to put the ball on the turf after being hit by bigger men that caused him to fumble in college.
He talks too much to boot and isn't very humble for an above average college player.
