(Probably) No hope of True Detective Season 2 coming close to Se.1

This show is obviously different than almost any show that's come before it, but it certainly is strange to have no contract yet for Season 2 with Nic P.
I can't remember if Nic has even submitted a full screenplay to HBO yet for Season 2, but I just doubt he will be able to submit anything meaningful anytime soon. And here's why:
So much of the real substance of the show was the philosophical ramblings of Rust. Clearly these are philosophical / metaphysical ideas Nic P. has developed throughout his life and wished to convey through Rust. Unless Se. 2 just regurgitates these same ideas, how can a guy just create a new philosophy for himself in just a year or two.
Nic P did a brilliant job of conveying his ideas with unseen levels of depth on TV, but I don't know how you can reinvent you belief system for season 2.
I think this does open the door for other writers to submit their own ideas that maybe they never dreamed could be conveyed on TV that way.
PS. I also have no faith in Season 2 if they follow through with female lead roles.

not really….he just put various historical philosophical ideas in Rust's mouth.
I think he has a chance to write a better overall story in 2, but the casting is super important. they caught lightening in a bottle.

So all writers only are able to convey 1 philosophy throughout their writings?
Season 2 might not be any good, but I think you're off base here. The guy is a novelist who got a TV show made, I'm sure he is capable of creating intriguing characters and stories.

After the letdown of Act III, I think it's an achievable goal.

Goodness...True Detective was a well made detective show. That's it. Some of the posters on here act like their lives were empty before seeing this show.

A friend told me the other night that he has about 6 seasons already thought through, kinda like GRRM has the general storyline for the rest of the books in his head.
Nik almost has season 2 ready to go and I don't think we'll see a drop off whatsoever in his writing. I do concur that season 2 is going to hinge much on casting.
Bring in more awesome boobs also please Nik!

True Detective's finale ending how every series/mini-series would end a story. However the jump from Episode 7 to * was far too wide. There was way too much build up to a lackluster conclusion. Overall the show was great but it needed 1-2 more episodes to finish the story imo

Its gonna be tough for sure.
Not sure how anyone can follow up the Rust and Marty dynamic from season 1.
Can't wait to see who they pick for the leads. Might have to be kind of big names.

The real question is, if he's like GRRM, is it going to take him 11 years to write 2 seasons?

Completely different story every season with new cast.

Nothing the Rust character uttered was wholly original.

I think you're looking too deep into it. He wrote a badass story about 2 cops solving a murder.

I went to High School with Nic, does that help?

Yea I posted in some of the earlier episode threads then they just got ridiculous. I would read stuff like "some of you need to accept that this show is focused on the character development/relationships of Marty and Rust and not the case blah blah blah.."
Whatever dude. It was really good cop story.

As good as season 1 was, I see room for improvement. Overall the writing was very good and the acting was great but the link to the green house was pretty lame. As others have stated in this thread, there's many ways the link could have been established that might have been more credible. A new set of writers for an anthology type show actually makes sense to keep the seasons/locations distinct and fresh. I could easily see the next season something completely different like corporate underworld in a Wolf of Wall St. type scenario.

I don't think Pizzolato is 5'6, 70, and 300 pounds.
