I'd like the OT's advice on a possible phone scam...

Over the past couple of weeks, I've gotten a lot of calls on my cell phone (anonymous number, of course) from someone saying that "allegations have been filed against me" and giving me an 855 # and a case number. They've said that they've contacted my supervisor at work (who hasn't advised me of anything) and that if I don't call the number, further action will be taken. I feel like this is a scam. Should I just ignore it or see what it's concerning? Thanks in advance...

Have you answered or is it a voicemail? Automated or human?

I think you need to take this seriously. Call them and report back.

Anxiously awaiting your reply.

I thought you were looking for advice on starting a scam. I'll just hang on to my ideas.

Just in case, have your social security number, your date of birth, and your address ready so you can give it to them to help expedite the process.

Google the phone number they have you. If it's a scam, others will have reported it most likely.

I keep missing the calls but the last two messages were from a lady that gave her same name and info both times.

ETA: Googled the number, nothing came up about it.

Something similar to this happened about a year and a half ago and I decided to do that. Never did get anything.

Do you have any past due bills? Being serious.

When I was in college and dumb I had bill collectors call and make subtle threats like that, even though most of what they say is bs as it's illegal. They will try saying anything though to intimidate you. If you call back or answer I would recommend recording the call for future use assuming you are in a state that allows it.

Definitely ignore it or sue them under FTCP if you could figure out who they are.
