give them the option - go directly to NBA are enroll in college and give it at least 3 years.
I hate professional sports for what it's done to college athletics. don't blame the athletes at all. We've gotten to the point where probably 70 per cent, conservatively, of athletes make a mistake leaving early. And it screws up the opportunity to get your team chemistry going at the college level.
I say, let them go direct or make them commit.
I also know that the same crappy system will endure.

No, that's what makes the tournament incredible every year. If you don't like upsets, watch the NBA playoffs

I just don't think they should force anyone to go to college. It makes a mockery of the whole thing. Not everyone is cut out for, or needs to go to college, so why act like these kids (one and done types) give a flying frick about school for 6 months before they go pro? If you want to go to the NBA, go. If not, go to college. Or improve/expand the D-league. Simple IMHO.

I feel dumb, thought this was referring to the tournament

Wasn't there a thread somewhere around here that said the NBA Commish was trying to propose a new rule called "2 and through"? I think it said it would require 20 years old minimum or 2 years removed from high school. I like it; I don't see anything wrong with it.

Absolutely not. I hope they go to to two and through or three and free, but Id much rather 1 and done than having the best players bypass college all together. I mean how much fun would it have been to see Lebron in the NCAA tourney? Even if it was just for one year it would have been a blast.

I would love the baseball rule for basketball... Not gonna happen, but it would be very good for college basketball.

What an original thought

Ahhh, the emotional reaction to the headline without knowing the content. Quite like much of our populace.

College basketball in the SEC's problem is that it starts before national signing day in football. It's like winter weather for northern college baseball teams, move the basketball season back to Feb. No one in SEC cares about hoops except UK especially during non conf play and SEC play is not much better.
The SEC lost all the good coaches that had been at programs for a long time and the replacements have not been up to task. Would love for the SEC to go back to when sec hoops meant something but the talent has to get better and the coaching has to get better for it to happen.

What good coaches?

As a fan, sure.
As an American, no. If you're old enough to work (16), then how you choose to pursue your career is up to you. If you want to go while you're in high school, go ahead. It's up to you whether you made a good decision for yourself or not. This must go to college or must stay 3 years crap is anti-American.

What I would prefer. College isn't for everyone. it would water down the NCAA product but so be it.

The #1 agenda item for the new NBA commish is to abolish 1 and done and implement a two and through.
The NBA collective bargaining agreement is already set for a while.
I hope he can get it done.

I'm against any rules regarding this kind of thing. As far as I'm concerned, regardless of the sport, if a professional team wants to hire somebody and the player wants to go pro, let them. It doesn't matter if it's right out of high school or after any number of years of college. I don't think many NFL teams would be looking to draft football players right out of high school, but if they did, and if the player wanted to go pro, who am I to say "you aren't ready," to an adult who thinks he is ready and has a team ready to take him on?
I just don't understand who these rules are supposed to be benefitting. Is it for the pro team's sake? Why are we trying to protect the teams from themselves? Let them hire who they want.
Is it for the athlete's sake? I don't see how making them play for a year or three years for free is in their best interest.
Is it for fans of college sports? Why? I don't see why high school kids should be obligated to play for our entertainment before having the chance to go pro.

Then how about they perform, learn, and become ready for a professional career prior to it being handed over.
Ever hear of a surgeon performing an open heart surgery as an 18 year old without experience. Do 5 star restaurants hire HS senior who can bake a pie in home ec.?
You know why the NBA has become so unwatchable? because half of its players never learned how to be a teammate, play defense, or shoot a basketball. For every one Lebron there are 50 Kwame Browns
quote:
We all can agree that Kwame Brown was one of the biggest busts of all time. MJ chose him No. 1 overall in the NBA Draft after Brown rose to fame during his senior season of high school. However, predictably (looking back on it), Brown’s poor fundamental skills showed early in his career and stunted his potential. He never developed an inside presence that a draft pick of that calibar should have developed, causing him to never reach his potential. That, combined with a shaky attitude, turned him into a very average NBA role player
Do you think if Kwame Brown had to play two years of college BB he would have been drafted #1 overall? But the "I gotta get him before you get him in case he actually becomes a good player mentality is wack

Yep. Do the baseball rule.
There are kids that can play right away. Let them do it.
Make the others Stay 3 years so college ball isn't ruined.
