This is a question for one of my friends…

His GF is from Mississippi and she plans on coming to LSU she has a 28 on the ACT and a GPA over a 4.0 as a Junior right now in high school (he is also in high school) she can easily make a 30 or above on the ACT by the time she graduates. she also participates in a lot of clubs and organizations for service hours and leadership councils... so besides scholarships and financial aid are there any other grants or programs that she could possibly gain more money from? any answer will help!

Weighted GPA, high schools give weights for taking honor/AP/IB/Duel enrollment classes.

I graduated with a 4.6 and my valedictorian had like a 5.3 it's ridiculous

Most high schools scale the GPA for AP courses taken. So if you get an A in an AP class, it counts as more than 4... I forget the actual number?

OP -Have your friend contact the admission department. With grades like that, her out of state will get waived for sure. Get the ACT over 30 and I would bet on a full ride.

I was an AP/honors student in high school, but I don't remember our scale extending past 4.0

is this a Mississippi thing?

Have her renounce her citizenship to become an illegal alien; then she can get tuitiion really cheap. Our country does a lot of stupid shite.

Pretty sure LSU doesn't recognize the weighted score though.

The Honors college gives it's own weighted score to the weighted score though.

She has already researched this and doesn't need his or your help b/c she's had the financial aid lined up for awhile by now.

LSU will 99.99 % waive her out of state tuition with those stats. Not sure if they'll give her any other money though. Tell her to apply/call

Each member on the LSU Board of Supervisors has a certain amount of full-tuition scholarships they can "give away" too. The recipient can't be rewarded both TOPS & this scholarship so that's something to take a look at too

Academic Common Core (SREB) will waive out of state tuition for certain majors at LSU (Petroleum Engineering, Biochemistry, etc). It just depends on what state

LSU System

SREB

I'm willing to bet your pessimism is based on the lack of "academic scholarships" from LSU to in-state applicants with decent stats like those. The explanation is that they don't need to give money to in-state kids because of TOPS.

I graduated in 2010 and you needed at least a 32 for the chancellor's top 100 scholarship. They completely redid the scholarship system the next year though

Look into the Academic Common Market. I was a Tennessee resident and was able to get in-state tuition at LSU because I was in Landscape Architecture, which they don't have at any Tennessee universities.

Is she trying to go to LSU or a Southern? BRCC probably has more options.
