Basketball commit from Tioga...Epps

Saw him last night against STM. Looks great in warm ups. Has a LONG way to go before becoming an NCAA caliber player. I'm not in any way bashing this kid. Just last night he got schooled & out-muscled by smaller players. He has one move in the lane when he takes it to the rack, and lacks hustle on rebounding & loose balls. I consider him a "project" type recruit.

Yeah I don't think he's SEC caliber whatsoever. I am gonna trust JJ though.

He's a Southland type player, but I hope he develops.

I've seen the kid double digit times. Coached against him in summers for a few now... I disagree completely. He has a great touch and can hit corner 3s with great regularity. I don't view him as a 5 and barely a 4. He'll come in and play the 3/4 for LSU. He added 25-30 lbs of muscle last year in his first real year working out and he'll likely be another 20-25 heavier before he plays at LSU. His footwork on the perimeter guarding 3s is right where Jarell's was at this point if not better. A complete sleeper that may be better than the other 3 signees in the class. Rim to Rim as fast as any player I've seen at his height. Often outrunning guards down the floor. Would love to see his 3/4 sprint split vs. guards.

They only had 1 days rest where he was triple teamed and fouled all night prior to the STM game
He needs to put a bit more meat on him but you have to remember the rest of his team while talented lacks size, which means it's easy for a good team to place more emphasis on him.
I agree with Coach D. He has good footwork, can hit mid to long jumpers.
He's smart too. Multiple games with 10+ blocks. He stays out of foul trouble too. If he gets beat he will not sell out for the block and risk the foul. Solid player will be much better when surrounded by a group of guys of equal talent.

STM is always gonna give teams trouble. Don't wanna write the kid off after one game.

He was out hustled, muscled, & outplayed by a couple of 6'-3" guys. They were able to only double team him when he got the ball in the paint & really shut him down. He had 15 points but at least 6 were from the line. He was very un-involved in rebounding, maybe had 5 all night. Really played soft last night,. Scouting report was he could be soft, right on last night.
STM also played Wednesday night so fatigue was same for both teams.

Thats not how fatigue works moron. Go ahead and admit it, you think you know better than everyone else

Good job judging a kid off of one game....
Let's get real, Epps IS Tioga. I'm sure he was a lot more fatigued individually than an entire team. STM is the ultimate fundamentally sound team, whereas Epps has to do most for his team. It's completely different.

He's really athletic and long, typical Johnny Jones type of player.
Whether he turns out like John Odo or Tyrus Thomas remains to be seen.

Everyone knew beforehand that he was going to be a project. He has improved a lot since his junior year though.
He's averaging 24.3 pt/gm, 14.6rb/gm, and 6.5 blk/gm his senior season. That is impressive regardless of the level of competition (4A isn't too bad).

Have you ever been double teamed? I've seen lots of good h/s players struggle against such a D who have gone on to be really good college players.
Who knows how this kid will do at the next level, but one game reviews are useless. imo

Epps has some solid guys around him. But they are all undersized.
Being double teamed by two 6'3" guys from a really good basketball team is not easy to beat.
That's when you have to hope other guys are knocking down shots.

I was talking to the HC from St Aug tonight and he thinks the kid is really good. Has an excellent outside shot and is very athletic. Acknowledged he may need a year or two to develop, but was very impressed by the kids tools

I've been waiting for this thread. I actually just finished a conversation with two coaches who were in attendance Fri night. That kid is no where near SEC caliber. very nice touch on a shot he doeant use much. No intensity. Just nothing but height and a nice frame. very narrow shoulders. Big feet! Looks as though growth not finished.
Could not believe they were losing by over 10 and this guy just sat back and took it. Didn't foul out. I would have imagined him DEMANDING the ball and trying to carry his team.
There's a 6'6" kid that STM played against Wed that would outpkay this guy at the next level. He plays PG much of the time. Nice frame, total coordination, super jumper...way way better IMO

Once again, you can probably read through the thread first because there are only a few posts...
It's one game. Why are we basing an entire career off of one game? He is probably not a fundamentally sound player right now, and was going against kids who have great fundamentals and are coached extremely well. I think it's completely unfair to say a kid will not be SEC caliber when in 4A basketball he's averaging 24/14/6.5
