Which one is easier for a beginner? I was told currency exchange is a little less risky...

Currency exchanges will virtually guarantee you lose money, but only a little.
Stocks will probably make you money, but you might lose a lot.
If you are a beginner, don't worry about losses. The lessons learned losing money are far more valuable than the money lost.

I think you'd gain more long term learning about stocks. You have to take on significant risk trading FX to generate any legitimate return and you're at the mercy of foreign central banks/governments that you may not have a strong understanding of. Go pick a few companies to learn about, read their 10k and try to gain a better understanding of how they operate as a business, and then decide to invest or not.
