This, IMO.

The impromptu interview with the Newsweek reporter at his house caught him off guard which is the only reason he "confessed."

He is now trying to cover his tracks.

ETA: For the record, I am not Satoshi Nakamoto. Nor am I Dorian Nakamoto. There....I said it!

I agree with this. It's the only thing that makes sense. Why would he even claim involvement if he wasn't involved?

Yeah, he's probably just trying to save face with the community. He knows that they have concocted these grand illusions of who he is, or is supposed to be. He's afraid that maybe they'll see as the frumpy old Asian man with a fanny pack, instead of a masked vigilante who is out for financial justice.
