Induction vs Gas vs Electric

Anyone have an induction cooktop care to share their opinion on it? I have never cooked on one before but it seems to be getting great reviews so far in my research online. I know it has been around for years and years but it has just recently been updated to compete with the other cooktops. I love the fact that you can pull the pot instantly from the top and clean it without having to worry about burning yourself. Of course it is hard to beat good ol gas.

Induction you have to use steel.

I am building a new house and have decided to go induction on the cook top. You won't find a lot of people that have experience with it on these boards.
I have spent a lot of time researching and based on my research they are as responsive as gas, heat faster than gas and are certainly easier to clean. One caveat, you must use a ferro metal pot. All Clad and le Cruesat which I have both work well.
My only concern is the fact that they are electronic and I worry about reliability over the long term. For this reason, as well as resale, I will put a gas line in my kitchen just in case.
Gas is the gold standard and will be the most reliable but cleaning it is a chore.

The best eggs I ever had in my life were cooked on a induction cooktop.

I have one at our condo in BR. I personally like it. You'll find people that say its hard to clean and keep clean (keep clean yes, not so much clean). One of the burners that we use the most doesn't get as hot as it used to after 8 years.. That's my complaint with it.
To clean it, use a razor blade to scrape any crap that you spilled on it, and then use the polish to clean it to a shine.

I had one in my Fort Bend Co., TX house. It was ok. It may have been better than I thought because I was always aggravated by some mystery issue that nobody (including repairmen) could figure out. Some controller somewhere would periodically go haywire. The only way to remedy it was to go out to the garage and switch the breaker off and back on.
A $475+ replacement of some board one time helped for a while, but then it went back to its same old routine. Sometimes it would behave for a month, but other times I'd have to reset it 3x in 1 day.
A few years ago I ripped it out and went in with basic gas. Aggravation went away and I enjoy cooking again.

Gas because the plasma of the fire goes high up the pan. Even though you might not see it. Ill take an even distribution of heat over anything else.
Gas is the easiest to control.

If you get the better 1800W - 3600W induction cook tops they are great to work with. Very precise and can get as hot as even a highend gas range with a high output burner. You have to pick your cookware to work with induction but that isn't much of an issue.

I'll never live somewhere that doesn't have a gas stove. Instantly on, instantly off, can't get better than that.

I have a gas stove and love it. Ours really isn't hard to clean at all.

The more I read about the induction the more intrigued by them i get. We had an electric cooktop growing up that was glass(no coils). It looked great when brand new but after about 3 months the glass had a smudge on it that we could not get rid of. We tried every type of cleaner and polish for it but never could get it to look like new again. Thats biggest negative for me right now for the induction.

I'm going to redo the kitchen when I get back home eventually and I'm putting in half induction/half gas burners for the cooktop. Have a plug-in 1800W induction plate I use for stir-frying and my large stock-pot.
