A new bill introduced Tuesday would prevent people from using food stamps or other federal aid to buy medical marijuana.

Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) proposed the No Welfare for Weed Act, H.R. 4142, which would prohibit pot from being bought by people using Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance (SNAP) programs. TANF is the federal welfare program, and SNAP is commonly referred to as the federal food stamp program.

If this is medical marijuana, wouldn't those on welfare also receive some sort of prescription benefit?

Yes

But it won't stop the left and their ilk from painting this as a huge injustice

I would like to hear one compelling argument as to why taxpayer funds in the form of welfare should be used to by marijuana.

People can trade foodstamp benefits for whatever they want. There is an underground economy for such things.

Drunks locally buy steaks or seafood, sell them for cash at greatly reduced prices to their family and buy booze. I imagine some do this for drugs too, probably been going on for decades.

I guess if they are using their food stamps for things other than food, they don't really need the food stamps in the first place.

Why not?

But while we're at it, weed isn't food. You can't buy smokes directly with foodstamps either. This is a bill equivalent to a push poll.

"Do you support the ability of foodstamp recipients to buy heroin with their benefits?"

I'm pretty sure you can only use food stamps to buy food.

Medicare SHOULD pay for dope -its a lot cheaper than alternative medications.

"Why not" is not a substantive answer. Try again.

No argument there, but that doesn't necessarily disqualify its usefulness.
