What process and paperwork would I need to buy a vehicle in New Mexico from a private owner and bring it back to Louisiana to register it here?

Notarized bill of sale, notarized title, proof of insurance.

Proof of insurance is required for all transactions, or at least that's what the sign says when you walk in the Mandeville DMV office.
I bought a truck from MS. For what ever reason, transactions between some states (including MS) and LA don't require a notarized bill of sale, but I did have to present a copy of the previous owner's drivers license. I'm not sure if that was to confirm his signature on the title or as proof of residency in MS.
The DMV took the signed title and sent me a new one (with my name misspelled...) a couple of weeks later.
