I have a HBO account, through Directv, but you can not use HBO GO on some platforms, like Roku.

So if you have direct tv you cannot use Roku to stream HBO GO? Or DTV just will not let you use HBOGO at all? If so, that is messed up.

You can use HBOgo with Direct Tv. I have it.
Can't comment on the Roku though, don't have one.

Can you just pay for HBO Go monthly, or do you have to have HBO to get HBO Go?

Have to have HBO to get HBOGo. Have somebody you know give you their login.

You can use HBOGO on a computer, iPad, or a smart tv. But not through roku. Not sure about appletv or chromecast

I use HBOGo with my Roku all the time.
I have Time Warner though.

No, I mean Direct TV allows you to loggin on other systems to use HBOgo
