One thing that irritates me is that I was 21 and I couldnt apply for a student loan without my parents tax info which drove me mad because they filed with an ext every year. They didnt support me I claimed myself on my taxes but the gov required THEIR info. On my own I would have qualified for pell grants and all since I barely made anything. But no! The law stated that you couldnt file on your own until you were fricking 24..

you would be ok if the outcome of this case sets a prscedent that bratty kids can do whatever the hell they want, even when they are of legal age, and the parents will have to foot the bill?

How is it ok that the parents cant cut all financial ties at the age of 18 but the child cant cut financial ties until they are 24?

i think part of the parent's case (as stated in the legal docs linked a few pages back) is that by moving out, she emancipated herself and cut all ties with them.

i don't think the latter part of your statement is right either, imo. It really isn't fair that they judge your financial elligibility on your parents income.

What sense of entitlement?

I have no problem with parents rewarding their children for following rules, staying out of trouble, making great grades, and being respectful young adults.

I also have no problem with parents taking away those rewards when those same kids suddenly feel that they no longer have to abide by those rules when they finally get a taste of the penis, (or vagina), and/or they start hanging out with some new "friends" whose parents let them get away with anything and now the kid feels that they should be able to do the same

I agree with you. The law here should side with the parents. I just get pissed that the law for the kids that choose to leave and NOT require support or ask for it hurts them as well.

Making 8k a year supporting yourself through college sucks especially when I went to college the year before TOPS kicked in. I knew kids that had their parents paying for their rent that got Pell Grants too because their parents didnt make over X amount. I grew up fast though so I cant really blame my parents. They gave me the option of going to ULL and still live at home or go to LSU and they would pay for my first year only.

If you really hate your kids, give them everything they want.

"The judge in the case read a transcript of a voicemail where she told her mom, "I wanna shite all over your face."

I hope the judge throws the book at her and she has to pay all legal fees.
