I never said they owe her anything. But she claims they kicked her out and they claim she left on her own. Just because they popped out a kid doesn't magically mean they're the ones telling the truth. It doesn't mean she is either. We don't fricking know. It's quite plausible they made up "rule breaking" and went blabbing about how much they love their little angel to save face.. Just like its quite plausible she's a spoiled brat who is trying to get her way.
It really doesn't matter whether they were good parents or not.. If they didn't abuse her then oh well.. She's shite out of luck IMO being 18.. And while that attitude may make them shitty parents, assuming its true, they don't owe her squat once she hit 18..

I've never had an issue with my parents and they've always trusted my decisions so maybe I'm biased and giving her too much credit.
Or maybe they raised you well enough that it never came to this.

We. Don't. Know.
I know one thing... She isn't the first kid to leave or get kicked out to get their mind right. I seriously don't give a shite, and I'll tell you one thing that makes it all stink like poo, and it's the college thing. That shows you the motivation here. She is a spoiled rotten entitled little shite. I've known a lot of people with so much less and will I guarantee you, have done a lot more with their efforts and sweat from their brow at the end of their lives than that little shithead will ever dream of.
She is the POSTER-CHILD of everything that is wrong with people today. They think someone OWES them everything, and if they don't get it, they throw tantrums like a child, because they are, and will blame their entire life's failures on everyone but themselves.
I'll tell you another thing. The poor guy that makes the grave error in judgement of marrying this little girl is in for a world of hurt.

Well I agree with this. I'll give you another story today. Watching Good Morning America and they had a bit of Jimmy Kimmell picking up the drunk, crackhead Mayor of Toronto Ron Ford and they were treating him like a rock star.
Rock star without a guitar.
That kind of shite pisses me off.

From another article in USA Today, it may come down to New Jersey's definition of emancipation:
Rachel says her parents are punishing the school by withholding tuition payments because of claims of parental abuse:
But no abuse was found according to:
quote:
[the lawsuit] seeks a judge's declaration that she is nonemancipated and dependent as a student on her parents for support.
quote:
In New Jersey, emancipation of a child "is a fact-sensitive analysis that looks at whether the child has moved beyond the sphere of influence and responsibility exercised by a parent and has obtained an independent status of his or her own," Helfand said in court papers.
Rachel says her parents are punishing the school by withholding tuition payments because of claims of parental abuse:
quote:
She said in her papers that Morris Catholic advised her not to return home and contacted the state Division of Child Protection and Permanency (known as DCP&P and formerly as DYFS) after Rachel alleged abuse.
quote:
The court record includes a letter from Morris Catholic English instructor and campus minister Kathleen Smith, who wrote that she was a witness to a rough encounter between Rachel and her mother in mid-October 2013 and heard Elizabeth Canning call her daughter a foul name and say she didn't want to speak to her daughter again.
But no abuse was found according to:
quote:
Sean Canning said that a DCP&P representative visited his home for about three hours last fall, found nothing amiss, determined that Rachel was "spoiled" and discontinued the investigation.

Couple things:
1. I'm really surprised Morris Catholic is supporting the student in this case. During my time there, (which was great, not complaining) they were very risk averse and did anything to avoid negative press. There was a sexual abuse scandal in the late 90s and the school was very sensitive to press. I really would have thought they just kick her out and not deal with it. It's a private school, they don't need a good reason.
2. The local public school is Morris Knolls...it's one of the better public schools in Morris County. If she can't afford MoCath on her own, go there.

People are missing the biggest frick you and reason whys she's doing this.. She wants her hands on the "college fund" and apparently so does her friends parents and attorneys.
I agree with you. It would be interesting if the parents set this college fund up partially in her name. I also wonder if they got a tax break for doing that.
The Louisiana version of that is called START isn't it? Aren't those accounts partially in the child's name?

You put the blame on the parents?
Yes, I do. I'm will to bet the parents choose that school years ago. Now that she is just 3 months away from graduating, you think she needs to change schools. Do you know how hard it would be to change schools at this time. I don't know the details enough to assume which side is right, but trying to sabotage your child's ability to graduate high school is not taking the high road.

I didn't read all of the comments but I heard on the news that she is now living with her best friends parents and they are paying for her "legal fight."
How much you wanna bet her best friends dad is knocking the bottom out of it right now?

Sooooooooo continue the way that they have been treating her?
I side with the parents, because it's their house, their rules and obviously the girl wasn't getting that through her thick skull. She doesn't deserve anything from her parents now that she's 18. That being said, kids can't spoil themselves...
