So I got pulled over for doing 91 in a 70, cop comes back with my info and says he wrote it up as reckless driving for being 21 over...he said to call to get price info on Monday or I could go to my court date.

Googling is pretty useless to get solid info on how much this will cost an out of stater traveling through, so is anybody familiar with cost and what are the chances I get it reduced to just a garden variety 21 over speeding ticket? Not saying I don't deserve a speeding ticket but reckless driving seems excessive.

Driving that fast isn't an accident, hence the reckless. Enjoy that insurance bill for the next 3 years.

Up here I have seen people go to court on their own and tell the judge that they were speeding, but were not 20 mph over the limit. If the cop doesn't say anything bad about you (like swearing or giving him a hard time) the court usually reduces it to simple speeding.

Another way around it is to get the dealership give you something that says the speedometer is off a bit. It's hearsay without a live person there, but it works sometimes.

Good luck.

It is. I'm not even trying to start anything. 21 over is beyond just a mere speeding ticket imo

Good luck, last ticket I got was 93 in St Tammany Parish and didn't have any luck getting it reduced. Cost about $275. The whole thing is when you're going that fast they don't like to reduce them

Meh, 91 in 70 isnt that bad. I try to keep it under 86 though.

Not just the 21 over but rolling 91mph? Very close to 100 mph and they know it.
This idea about the dealership getting involved saying the speedometer is off is really stretching it and can easily be seen as mockery. Bad idea IMO.

Defintely reckless and you're a POS for putting the lives of families in danger. I hope the state fricks you over good.

I honestly thought it was 25mph over the speed limit here in Alabama for a reckless driving charge. I guess it's 20+ now. Most cops, with the exception of State Troopers, in Alabama drop it down to where it's around 1-2 mph below the reckless driving buffer. That is, if you're nice to them, and don't give them any shite.

This, of course, has been in my experience.

Incorrect. Anything over 85+ is reckless in Alabama and has been for a long time.

25+ is also wreckless if it's under 85.

In the Bible Belt here "thou must prepareth thou anus". most anywhere 20+ over speed limit is considered reckless driving....
