A Boston College wide receiver is giving up his chance to play in the NFL to pursue becoming a Navy SEAL.

The announcement about Alex Amidon, a senior who set the school's all-time record for most receiving yards in a season and in a career, was made during a BC football recruiting dinner Wednesday night, according to SB Nation.

The Greenfield, Mass., senior topped 1,000 receiving yards for the second straight season in 2013.

There are about 2,500 active-duty Navy SEALS. Each year, about 1,000 men start SEAL training, and about 200 to 250 men succeed, according to the SEAL website

Think of all the pussy and money he is throwing away.

Now he'll only get a free meal at Denny's while in uniform

Honorable, but it does make me question how he did on the Combine.

I other than that why SEALS, they're too Hollywood. Why not Ranger or Delta? I know there isn't exactly a Delta recruiting office around the corner.

And former 3rd round pick, and Army Airborne School graduate Glen Coffee is black. What's your fricking point?

do they let you out of the Navy now if you wash out?

They didn't use to. So a lot of people joined to be SEALs & ended up chipping paint. Similar to pilots in Navy & Corps.

no

ETA: I went to the Citadel, had a lot of guys that wanted to go SEALs and did not take the commission into the Navy bc officer slots are so few in SEALs. Wash out and are regular enlisted navy....sucks

I'm with tketaco here, SEALs are great but are way too Hollywood and get too much credit. Delta is the elite of the elite.
