If woodduck is the best tasting, then why do so many people hold out for green heads in the blind?

Trophy.

Arguably the smartest and most cunning of duck species. Therefore the hardest to hunt.

Most of the time one is pass shooting wood ducks. While the idea is to trick a mallard into decoying.

Mallards are known and liked for their ability to be worked with a call. Pintails are much more wary birds, especially out in the open.

Because I was running yo-yo's early when the woodies were flying.

Bigger, smarter, more of a trophy. I don't discriminate though. I also HATE cleaning woodies.

wouldn't say hold out with wood ducks

you can only shoot 6 ducks. 4 of which can be mallards and 3 of which can be woodducks (was only 2 for a long time)

So a mallard hunter will likely not hold off on shooting a woodie because a full limit would require 2 non-mallard birds

You're correct. I usually tell my guys to fire away at wood ducks and then after good daylight we settle down and try to "work" mallards into the dekes. With a blind holding 7 or 8 guys we rarely if ever kill our limit of wood ducks which means we are depending on Gadwall and teal to fill the "off" duck portion of a limit.

Soooo much wrong with this statement. I can't believe they let you practice medicine. Democrat ducks, easiest to domesticate. Only flies as far south as it has to for food.

I agree with this. Usually shooting time for wood ducks is limited to the first few minutes of shooting time. After that, that don't fly much and definitely won't work decoys IMO.

Not a good comparison

keep in mind I know just a little bit more about duck hunting than I do about how a woman's mind works.

The duck limits really confuse me. You can have 7 birds total right? But only 3 can be small ducks and the rest big ducks? Or you can have 7 big ducks and no small ones?

One hunt this year we let woodies fly early because we could hear thousands of ducks near by. Of course nobody was in that field so nothing coming by us would work and we ended up with 3 mallards when we could of had a persons limit of woodies and 3 mallards

You can have 6 total ducks.

of the birds that make up those 6:
1 can be a mottled duck
2 can be pintail
3 can be woodducks
4 can be mallards, of which only 2 may be female

most of the others you can shoot 6 (I know I missed some above)
