Jimmy Garoppolo-- QB from Eastern Illinois a possibility?

I searched and didn't see anything mentioned of this kid.

Obviously Payton went to Eastern Illinois (Tony Romo as well). I wonder if Payton may take a chance on him and develop him as the heir apparent? Some have him as a 2nd round grade.

Todd McShay listed him as an offensive riser coming out of the combine

quote:

QB Jimmy Garoppolo, Eastern Illinois: The ball was jumping off his hand during passing drills Sunday, and he showed quick feet. Teams will have to be convinced he can make the leap from playing against lower-level college competition to the NFL, but I was told he really impressed teams during interviews with his knowledge of the game and on tape he appears to have functional NFL arm strength. There's good zip on his short and intermediate throws; the question is whether he can consistently drive the ball down the field on deep balls. He could wind up as a top-five QB in this class and would be a perfect fit as a developmental guy.

Good SI article

Saints aren't drafting a QB

But I think he is going to be a good ball player. Quick release and good feet in the pocket.

I don't disagree but you never know how the draft plays out

Not to mention our FOs unpredictable drafting over the years

I see him projected 3rd Rd, 2nd, 5th, and 2nd on a few boards. Anywhere from the #6 to 12 in QB rankings.

You've gotta go on someone if they end up going much lower than how you rank them. Still, a 4th for a QB at this time better have some legit high upside potential. 5th or 6th no biggie if they see something better than Griffin.

I personally think Garoppolo is going in the 2nd rd. The Saints aren't drafting a QB in the 2nd rd, I know that.

I think there is a strong chance he ends up being the best Qb out of this class. If I was one of the GMs that needs a QB in this draft (Texans, Browns, Raiders, Vikings, ETC), i would pass on a QB in the 1st and use my 2nd rd on Garoppolo.

I'm not sold on either Manziel, Bortles, or Bridgewater being stars in the NFL.

Personally, I dont think FO is taking a flyer on any QB in this. They would have to LOVE somebody in the late rds.

This cash strapped team needs all their picks to try and find players to contribute and fill their roster, cheaply. There not going to waste a pick on a player who is not contributing till 3 or 4 yrs down the road and then they will be heading into their 2nd contract when it's their time to contribute.

He's definitely going in the 2nd round, without a doubt. One of the top teams will either trade out or take another skilled position player in the 1st. Then take this guy in the 2nd. Won't last past pick #10...If we could get A. Murray in the late 3rd-4th I would love that pick. A lot of fans don't like him for whatever reason, 3 years under Brees and the kid could come out a superstar.

And in need of a new contract

I'm glad we good at QB. There is not a single one I would pick in the 1st round this year.

3 years pine riding will get him a minimal deal. And anyways the cap will be 175M by then. All good!

FO isn't using a quality pick like 3rd or 4th rounder on a QB. 3rd or 4th rounders are cheap players who fill out rosters as starters, contributors or special teamers.

A cash strapped team is not wasting picking young cheap talent that can contribute to a contender, whose window is closing, on a QB who is going to sit 3-4 years (at least).

NOT HAPPENING

You're right. They will load up on the James Allen's, cie grants, Alfred finchers, Courtney watsons, usama young, Antonio Pittman, Vaughn and arnouxs, martez, Johnny Patrick, mark Ingram etc

They aren't smart enough to think of life after brees. Instead we will draft guys who we will cut after a year

I wouldn't spend a 1 or 2 on the guy. Anything after that, sure. You cannot hitch the future of this franchise on Griffin's shoulders
