So the gf and I are in London and flying to Edinburgh then to Amsterdam next week. I'm sure some of you have been to Amsterdam but what should we do in Edinburgh for 4 days? As of now we plan on renting a car and visiting castles. That will only be one day.

Also, I personally never been to Amsterdam besides the obvious I need recommendations on things to do in the 4 days we are there. We rented a place on airbnb in the Jordann neighborhood.

To break this down 4 days in Edinburgh then flying to Amsterdam for 4 days.

I would recommend going to Amsterdam alone.

I have only been to Amsterdam for 1 day but it is a neat city. Here are some of the places I went that you should check out

De Sluyswacht(Jodenbreestraat 1
1011NG)it is an old dam lock house that is crocked , all the locals go here and is a great place to get a beer on the water I would highly recommend

Anne Franks house is a must see for any history buff

Coffeshops sell the reefer, cafes do not (if you want that)

Haesje Claes (Spuistraat 275, 1012 VR Amsterdam, Netherlands):
I've eaten here which was pretty good

This is all I got.

The red light district isn't anything fancy.

Amsterdam itself is neat for a day but I'd spend some time closeby too, like Bruges, Hague, etc.

I've wondered what it would be like to visit Edinburgh. Probably very chilly this time of year. Maybe visit the cafe where J K Rowling wrote most of her stuff?

When in Edinburgh, hike up Arthur's seat. It's basically just a big hill and is an easy hike. Doesn't take more than 20-30 minutes to hike up and it gives you great views of all of Edinburgh, the city, the coast, etc.

There's Edinburgh castle right in the middle of the city that is pretty cool.

There's also an old church over by Arthur's seat that you can see and hike Arthur's seat all in a couple of hours.

I love Edinburgh, but honestly, you may get bored after a couple of days. You could pop up to Inverness for a day, but I think that is more of a summer time thing to do. I seem to remember an Edinburgh city tour being cool because they took you the Firth bay area.

When you're in Scotland, take the train to Sterling and climb the Abbey Craig to the Wallace Monument. It's an awesome look into the history of Scotland, it's beautiful, and there are a lot of pubs and restaurants in the area.

Amsterdam has passed some new weed laws, so I don't know how festive it is these days, but the museums are among the best in the world. Van Gogh. Rembrandt. Wax museum. The diamond processing facility (where you can watch dreams slowly die).

But really, the women top it all. You'll wish you had gone alone or with a friend. The above poster is right about that.

How strict are they? I would be okay with a few edibles and not actually buying any to smoke.

This is definitely worth the trip.

Tour Edinburgh Castle, and on your way back out, take the "official" scotch whisky tour on the Royal Mile. You'll get some neat history, learn how scotch is made, and most importantly, get to taste some delicious single malts.

I love Edinburgh but not sure you need 4 full days there to finish the Royal Mile and surrounding areas.

I took the circular drive all the way around the Northern loop of Scotland up through Aberdeen to Elgin and around and enjoyed that but the road gets really isolated and it is a single lane for a lot of the trip so some folks wouldn't enjoy that much isolated driving.

I thought Glasgow, though touristy and more crowded, was fun and worth visiting.

Too bad Nellie is dead or you could drop in to visit her.

The article is pretty much saying authorities will simply turn their heads if a tourist wants to buy some buds.

I guess it's a risk I'm willing to take, haha.

They also sell mushrooms legally in Amsterdam. If you aren't accustomed to eating those, don't. Or don't eat too much.

I haven't talked to anyone who's had to negotiate the new laws, so I don't know how regularly they are enforced. It's just troubling that they passed the law. There's been a conservative revolution of sorts over there.

Amsterdam is a lot of fun, but take a day trip to Bruges if you like chocolate. I also recommend Rotterdam, a big, beautiful modern city with tons to do and eat.

It is troubling. The red light district and legal pot weren't the problem. The problem was no other city offered such things, so those things were concentrated which led to some seediness.
