Per Advocate, another preferred walk on RB from Plaquemine

Can't hurt to have another RB but he could still sign with another school if something comes to fruition.
Plaquemine High running back Julius Marcalin received few scholarship offers despite ranking among the state leaders in rushing 2,184 yards and 31 touchdowns, something that has baffled PHS coach Paul Distefano and others.
Distefano said Maracalin, The Advocate’s All-Metro MVP for Class 5A-4A, is now planning to become a preferred walk-on at LSU.
“It looks like Julius will be at LSU,” Distefano said. “He’s talked to (LSU offensive coordinator) Cam Cameron and really liked him. It’s a matter of getting him admitted to school, which shouldn’t be a problem academically, and then applying for financial aid.”
Should Maracalin end up at LSU, the Tigers would have two Green Devils. Plaquemine defensive end Davon Godchaux signed with LSU earlier this month.

DAMN nice a 2,000 plus rushers with 31 TDs is a hell of a walk on. What's this guy's height and weight?

I also don't understand why this kid didn't have offers from other schools. He's got great numbers.

Between him and the kid from McKinley, we've definitely got some talented walk-ons coming in.

Saw the kid pay, I thought he was around 6'1 210. He looked like one of the biggest kids on their team

2 - 2,000 yard rushers (Williams and this kid) PLUS Fournette in THE SAME CLASS!

so he is a RB but all his highlights were on defense

That's fine. He's a walk-on, so I'm sure he'll be asked to play several positions on scout team.
I always like pulling for walk-ons to work their way into scholarships. This kid seems talented enough to do that eventually.

Saw him in the Red Stick Bowl
Decent player. Remembered him being heavier than 190-pounds.
Thought the kid who signed with one of the IVY schools was going to be a steal wherever he ended up.

Julius is a very humble kid, the reason no big offers came his way is because of the ACL injury he suffered going into his Junior year. He is 5'11 210lbs. His soph year he rushed for around 700 yards. Plaquemine had Hakeem Deggs as the main guy. He signed with Northern Colorado.
Julius only offer was from Texas Southern. If not for the injury, he would have been a highly recruited player. Still baffled that this year he rushed for over 2000 yards and 30tds and didnt get a sniff from Southern.

Most Baton Rouge area kids typically show zero interest in Southern - they know how it truly is on The Bluff

Yes I agree MrWiseGuy, but for Southern to absolutely NOT offer, is astounding to me. High Character kid,(check), Highly productive kid (check), and Acadameically Qualified (check).

Southern also has two really good young backs in Tillery and Favorite, and brought in RB transfers from Pitt, North Texas and Florida.
Can't sign everyone.
The kid ain't missing out on much by Southern not offering, trust me.

While they can't sign everyone, I agree, well what would you rather have, a school practically in your back yard to pluck from for the FUTURE? Or choose to sign transfers from other colleges.
And before the transfers arrived on campus, Julius was putting up numbers as a sophmore. So not like they didn't know about him. But whatever floats their boat.

I agree. I'd consider the SU coach derilict of duty for not at least offering him, even if you think there's no interest. But my mom still works up there, I know how folks are. Southern gonna Southern.
